I was past retirement age but still working. I had noticed that I was physically deteriorating but I didn't think it would be this bad 10 years later.
How bad is it?

I was the head of security for two hospitals. I recruited all my team in Aug-Sept. of 2012 and hit the ground running in Oct. 2012. Craziest year of my life and not a day went by where I didn't have to fight someone. I trained all my team in boxing, jiu jitsu, and what is called "bar jitsu." I had trained bar jutsu with the creator back in 2005-2010 and believe in it to this day. Highly effective to neutralize a combative person. They wrote a book on it that I'd also recommend.

I didn't realize hospital security saw that much action.
Let's rewind the clock. December of 2012. Where were you, what were you doing, how was your life?

More importantly, what would your decade junior think of yourself today?
December 2012. Crazy transitional time in my life.
I started a job at a new special needs agency January of that year, I had a target on my back... young, black kid, management position... by November they found a reason to drop me from the management position - I was offered a demotion. I told them to kiss my ass, I'd sooner be without a job. I got another offer by them to retain employment and I told them I'd do it but I'd work per diem (as needed). That year my now wife and I saved up several thousand dollars. We were double income, no kids, and kept putting a bit of every check aside into a small safe in rubber-banded stacks of cash. I wanted to buy a Ford Focus SEL so badly, but I didn't have great credit so even with a hefty deposit, the dealerships didn't wanna fuck with me... unless I took a predatory loan out.
This cash sustained me for the period that I was working fewer hours.

(not my actual pic)
So around that time I was basically working overnight shifts for any house that requested me. I just paid off Sallie Mae and just started applying for graduate school.
I was doing Jiu Jitsu for close to 3 years at that time... My housemates (former coworkers) were moving out due to life circumstances (a few of them were expecting kids) and since we were disbanded, the house we were all renting together - we had to find new places to live.
2013 then changed my course drastically as well and even more changes were to come.
Partying in NYC and travelling through Europe. Good times.Let's rewind the clock. December of 2012. Where were you, what were you doing, how was your life?
