What went wrong with Sage Northcutt?

He won a number of fights inside the UFC octagon.

He beat guys who were about to get cut for not belonging after their first UFC run, Ottow is the only one to have won in the UFC after losing to Northcutt. Their combined UFC record is 7-19, or 3-15 without Ottow. And even with that said, Northcutt got a blatant hometown decision against Gouti thanks to that piece of shit of Texas commission that cheats pretty much every time there's a card there.

He should have a grappling super fight against Cm Punk so we can determine who’s worse

Give this young prospect some time

Nothing went wrong, he was just never that good

Not exactly, think the guy had the skill and definitely the looks lol. But he managed his career bad and the biggest mistake was he never got a legit coach to check him. Think if he would have had a Mendez, Hooft, Longo type coach that would mentor him and not let him buy into his own hype it could have been a far better career. Urijahs been coaching him but idk think he needs someone stricter.

Good coaching matters alot imo. Well dudes like 25. So theres still time...

He made like 80k/80k as a 23 year old with 7 fights in the UFC and thought he was underpaid.
Meh, he was a hot topic, he and Paige. Talented, attractive(?), golden haired white folks always draw more attention, fan and promoter, and the name of the game is eyes on the product.

Management issues, maybe dad, crashed it.
Or, the dude doesn't care to play the game any more.

5 years ago he was to become a poster boy in Ufc at the age of 19 years old with karate background.

He talked like a real athlete should do with zero thrashtalk and did not hitted old mens at bars or wearing gangster tattoos.

I believe his main issue was his father since he only trained in Texas and not in the bigger MMA gyms like American Kickboxing acedemy or Jackson-Wink

Maybe he went to ufc to soon aswell. As a fighter he was entertaining with his kicks and karate stands, it is always something special when you see someone who knows karate well and adapting that to mma such as Lyoto Machida during his prime.

He then went to One championship and got brutally kod. After 2019 we have never heard about him at all so what went actually wrong in his career? He is just 24 years old today.
He trained at Tristar and Jackson's often, then moved to UF/Team Alpha Male, and still comes into Ultimate Fitness/TAM. His sister is married to Raymond Daniels, Sage is one of Raymond's main sparring partners in fight prep.

The UFC knew they had a potential star, groomed him as slowly as possible, gave him the easiest comp imaginable, put him on main cards, gave him more money than his abilities were worth, and he got got all the marketing behind him for free to pick up sponsors ect....then he left to Asia for a few extra grand a fight, got matched up with comp equivalent to his pay and got his cheek sent to the back of his head.

I'd probably take a year off my skull was left in fragments too.
I thought the UFC cut him no? Maybe he was guilty of being demanding or requiring more money but i thought the ufc either let him walk after his contract was up or straight up cut him? Could be wrong

You're talking as if his career is over.

The guy still has up to 10 years left in his MMA career and is many years of his actual prime. He could still definitely be an elite fighter during the time

People just expected way too much of him too soon. You have to let him grow and develop properly, he was thrown in the deep end too early.

These +1

He didn't take up the Diaz Bro's offer to come to Stockton and train at the academy. Who knows where he'd be today if he would have?

He actually did.. as TAM, Team Black, CSA and Diaz Academy train together often

Too much emphasis on conditioning and not enough on fighting.

Not everyone is going to make it as an elite fighter. That said, all things considered, sage has still been highly successful in a very competitive sport

He was a poser with a suspicious physique.. specially considering his dad was a convicted cocaine and steroids dealer.

Kid was never a fighter.. just a blonde american sweetheart that wasn't though enough.

11-3 and by the posts here you would think hes 3-11.

Talented guy that should have spent much more time in the lower level orgs. His 6th professional fight was in the UFC which is insane. If they played their cards right he should have been entering the UFC right about now with 15 or so fights under his belt and without the unecessary brain damage. Poorly managed career.

He shouldn't have have started a fighting career at all. Or quit it when people stiil thought he was good. He had everything to earn money doing nothing on Instagram etc. It was obvious he was not a fighter. Stick to what you're good at amd what pays you better.
