What we now know about the Fox deal

Three things:

1. The FOX deal will pay off in the long run. If for no other reason, it has definitively made MMA a mainstream sport.
2. The Fight Pass is a dumb idea. Too expensive for what you get.
3. If the UFC really wants to grow viewership, instead of fight pass, put their entire catalog of past fights on Netflix or Hulu. That's the future. I think A LOT more people would see MMA and get hooked.

I agree on all 3 things

Fox Sports in general was a failure

UFC should've stuck with their core on Spike

Not a fan to be honest. Biggest issue is it waters down the PPV product with less star power. If I'm paying $60 for a PPV I would like all 5 fights on the PPV to be stars. Too many PPV's now where I only care about the main and co main event. I have to say UFC 170-172 do look good right now.

this is the worst complaint.

it makes my eyes bleed everytime I read it.

I bet Fox is regretting the decision after pushing so hard in trying to shove UFC into the casuals. It just hasn't work out the way they wanted it to.

I mean they are getting ratings in comparison to weekdays old reruns of Simpsons and Family Guy toons, and that is not saying much. I'm just saying.

Do you even ratings bro? UFC kills it with the 18-49 demo every event.

It's not mainstream

It's below Nascar and Soccer

I don't understand TS...do you work for the UFC? i assume you don't,,,so i don't get your post...As a hardcore fight fan I love that i get to watch fights more often,,,i could care less if fox has helped their ppv numbers, or has helped to grow tuf,,or has helped ufc acheive a more steady revenue model....

But hey that just me,,,i don't understand your motives... Frankly your kind of freaking me out..

it made cards waaaay harder to find. now you have the stupid fight pass where you can't even watch live cards on your big screen unless you're connected to the internet. just a HUGE fail by Zuffa...

Agree one hundred percent

1. The UFC sold the most PPV's in the history of MMA in 2013 and they will sell more in 2014 due to having more cards.

2. There is a huge demographic that has been exposed to MMA due to the fox deal (most people don't ever watch Spike) and the way people view MMA has completely changed. People used to look down on you for liking cage fighting as though it was the same as pro wrestling. Now most people know the term MMA and recognize it as a real sport. Fox took the UFC mainstream.

Lots of posters want to pretend the UFC is somehow not doing well when they're doing better than ever by a huge margin.

Every bar I've been to disagrees with you. A lot of them stopped ordering the ppv because not enough people were going.

All the ones in my area still order them and still are at capacity for the shows.

I don't think you should only look at ratings. Millions stream these events and watch these shows from around the world. The Networks know it, this is why Fox allowed free HD streaming of the Super Bowl for example. So don't look only at TV ratings. I think the number of people who stream Fox cards is double that of those who actually watch TV, and they watch the same commercials...I discovered MMA and the UFC online not on TV.

Will the UFC ever move to fox and ditch PPVs? Would that help ratings?

I think in a perfect world they'd love to be able too put most cards on FOX and Foxsports. Then hold like 4 PPV's a year that are stacked and will do a million plus buys. But until the FOX deal pays more I'm not sure that would happen.

I really like WWE's approach to it. I hope they hit a home run with it cause I could see the UFC following suit. It's plausible it could work wonders for the UFC. Think about now they sell 6 million PPV's a year and make roughly $27 or so a buy. That's a 162M a year. On fight pass if they sold it at $15 a month with PPVs included all they need to do is around 900,000 subscribers worldwide to make about the same revenue. Now I know it isn't as simple as that but I'm sure 1.5 million subscribers would make them more money then 6 million PPV buys. Plus selling fans on $15 a month is a hell of a lot easier then selling fans on $60 PPV's monthly and some months twice. Another thing going for the UFC is MMA is a very internet driven sport. Many of the fans are technology educated. The same can't be said about pro wrestling or most sports.

You are just saying not so smart things. The UFC pretty much always have the leading network rating in the 18-30/40ish demographic, which is coveted by advertisers.

It's fascinating to me that there are actually people that pay money to watch redneck slapstick theatre. But yeah, i hope they do well so the UFC will be motivated to create a better subscription service.

Overall the product in general has been watered down for the last 2 years at least. I buy far fewer PPV's since they are not as high quality as they used to be.
The truth for me at least is that the UFC just doesn't have enough "talent" to put on as many shows as they do each year.

This really isn't true at all and I don't know why people always say it. I assume people are choosing to only remember events such as UFC 100 as if that was the norm.

As a totally random event I picked UFC 80 as a point of comparison. It was headlined by a Penn-Stevenson title fight and the rest of the main card was Werdum-Gonzaga, Marcus Davis-Liaudin, Grove-Rivera and Gouveia-Lambert.

Compare that to the upcoming UFC 171 with Hendricks-Lawler, Condit-Woodley, Lomard-Shields, Sanchez-Jury and formerly Silva-OSP, currently most likely Gastelum-Story.

I really don't see that big of a difference. On average I'd say the cards are about the same. If anything I'd say 171 looks better.

You realize that your tiny circle doesn't necessarily reflect everyone in the world right? MMA is more popular than ever in CA
