What was it like after Fedor lost to Werdum

Yeah that Bigfoot fight made me rethink my life ffs sir lol.
That one hurt for real, it almost felt like I was in there taking the beating with him.

Brutal.
This. I was living in Holland with my dutch GF at the time so I had to watch it at like 4 in the morning. I remember stumbling to bed, hammered, as she was just waking up. She asked me "how was the game?" and I got super salty and explained for the millionth time that it was a Fight, not a Game. DUH!

I remember being shocked as a little dipshit, I thought Ubereem vs Fedor was the ultimate HW fight to make and he would cruise through Werdum. Werdums next fight vs Ubereem was such a stinker, it really annoyed me to no end and thought of it as an insane upset.

After the Hendo and Bigfoot fight it felt like it was over, Fedor had such an aura back then it was unthinkable to see him lose like this. But I wasnt on the Dog back then at all so idk how it was.

I was at a friend's house and I walked out immediately after that fight.
I have no idea why I did that but I was gutted, and I didn't even want to hear a single word from my friends lol

I was a lurker at that time, but from what I remember the talk was that werdum 'baited' him after the first exchange where fedor followed him to the mat, so there was sense of like 'congrats on pulling it off but wouldn't happen again, you only get one' kind of thing. I wouldn't say it was treated as a 'fluke' cus werdum was highly regarded for his bjj, but it was def something that was easier to write off at the time cus fedor's aura up until then made it hard to believe. Especially cus at the time Werdum had gotten ktfoed by JDS before leaving the UFC, so Werdum wasn't seen as the dude he'd become when he came back to the ufc and got the belt

I was mad because I was going to see that fight live and missed out on an important moment!

Other than that, just surprise. I don't live viciously through Fedor lik a lot of people here.

I had DirecTV at the time so I wasn't able to see it live. Showtime aired it on delay on the West Coast. They really screwed the pooch on that one.

The absolute disrespect of the West Coast broadcast LMAO

Its really hilarious when that would happen, considering Strikeforce was putting on their event in the Bay.

Weirdly I cannot recall where I watched this event. I can probably look it up on here.

This fight was a pretty big upset, Fedor was unstoppable and I don’t think anybody expected Werdum to be the one to beat him, so what was sherdog like after? I’m sure a lot of people probably pulled the Brock is the GOAT card as he was still a few months away from losing to Cain

I recall not being able to log onto this forum for a bit

Oh yea i totally forgot. People used to never give a shit about steroid use. It was the better fighter would overcome it with skill. The steroid users were seen as lower skill fighters. Lolol then it became yeah everyone was on drugs.

Shock , total shock for many , and a lot of sadness that it was over , Fedor being an invincible killing machine in hindsight was so much fun , and now it was over

People came to the realization that Brett Rodgers wasn’t just having the night of his life , looking back that fight should have been a sign that the decline had begun, but again, nobody wanted to believe it

I think the start of his decline became evident in the fight with Big Tim. (yes, I have the advantage of hindsight here, I am aware) but that was the fight where he just started blitzing with no set up. Gone was the careful game planning and feeling out process. I was surprised as fuck when he got tapped though, even still.

It's wild. The card itself was in San Jose, but we couldn't even get it live. Epic fail, lol.

It was the first mythically unbeatable fighter to have such a quick and simple downfall.
Kind of redefined everything for us.

Made Aldo’s and soul crushing defeat a few years later easier to bear.
I wouldn't say flukey exactly but I know where you're coming from sir.
Both those losses came while they were in a bit of a scramble.
He’d previously been in quite a few that’d left him vulnerable; but never came close to getting finished.
In that way, those two losses were “flukey.”
Randleman dropped their combined weight in Fedor’s head from about 1.5m and the Russian looked like he was drilling side control escapes.
Fedor was known to win fight from brink of defeat. After 2 months I had to ask wtf is wrong with this time-out.
Absolutely!
Bigfoot was slowing down.
Fedor would’ve cruised to a 48-47 UD in months 3,4, & 5.

Oh man, being there live would’ve been insane. I was there the night Weidman KOed Anderson, it was just surreal. I’m a big Silva fan, but somehow being there live and part of this amazing MMA moment made it sting less.

Would have been my first live MMA event too.

Silva is my favorite fighter and Weidman was my wrestling coach, that would have been odd for me to see in person. Heck, it was odd seeing it on TV.

Very cool to have Weidman as your wrestling coach! Out of curiosity, what did your first live MMA event end up being? Mine was UFC 146, the all-heavyweight card headlined by JDS vs Mir. I bought tickets when it was JDS-Overeem but then Reem pissed hot. Was still a great card though.
