In this newer era of MMA, where most fighters are complete and evolved, I just don't think we're ever going to witness undefeated fighters like say Floyd Mayweather or Danny Garcia. In boxing, it's really easy to not lose because promotion of fighters is a really big thing there. And then there are so many divisions that you can have belt hoppers like Floyd, who pick which title they want to defend seemingly to get the more favorable, profitable match up. And then on top of that, boxing is really singular. You can grow up boxing, to the point where in your professional career, you've pretty much seen everything.
Where as in MMA, it's totally different. You can grow up having practiced jiu jitsu, but you'll never have the stand up of that one guy or girl who boxed for most of their life (a la Rousey-Holm).
And then I feel like in MMA, there's a higher chance that a fluke might happen because there are so many areas that you have to worry about as a fighter.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I realised that what Floyd did, yeah, while going undefeated for so long is a good thing, I don't think that's possible here in MMA and that we should try not to hold fighters to that standard. Being undefeated just isn't realistic.
Or I don't know. Maybe I'm just beating a dead horse and stating the obvious here.

Thoughts?

I say 50% of A level athletes with 6 month serious training would go undefeated in MMA.

No one in MMA retires undefeated. Maybe some 1-0 guys.

What happens when those A level athletes face each other?

Of course, the condition is only one such A level athlete joins the frey. If they all join then it's back to the same as now (D level athletes duking it out with a few C levels sprinkled in who can go on streaks), you win some and you lose some.

And I say youre a moron.

That's exactly what my ex said! That, plus I'm a bum and a man child.

But what happens when . . . those 50% face each other?
They are already past there prime by this piint and there will be new A level bandwagons to jump on. Stating it all over again.

The difference between MMA at this level and boxing is that Mixed Martial Artists aren't cherry picking fights and hiding behind promoters to break up their difficulty of schedule. In the UFC, you're more than likely fighting the top guys in the world in your weight class, time after time without any break. When you mix that up with the wide variety of skill bases involved in this sport, it's a recipe for failure.

That's why people should appreciate sustained greatness around here more often.

I agree with TS. Had exactly this discussion yesterday with some mma newbies who thought losing the fight due to a rnc is way too random.

They are kinda right i guess.

When you fight top notch competition time in and time out you will lose. There is no protecting of fighters in mma.
