What kind of casual are you?

I'm a post-PRIDE casual who first fell in love with Fedor and the heavyweight class of that era.

But yeah PRIDE had actually finished and my initial interest was retrospective.

Sort of the Strikeforce/Affliction/Elite XC/Dream/Sengoku era.

UFC then completely dominated that era with the exception of failing to hire all those huge heavyweight names.
Its rare to encounter a Pride fan that became a fan post Pride. How did you learn of it?

Unfortunately for me I learned of Pride near the end (05). It was still a great year though with the 05 GP.

I saw it cuz I worked at best buy and a coworker did bjj told me about it. I then saw Chuck v Rampage on Gox and was like WTF there are other guys out there beating the top UFC fighters?!

I was at university when people around me mentioned a few names, but they weren't exactly fans and I don't think they ever had any real interest.

But for some reason I just started browsing Sherdog fight finder (didn't know even know there was a forum here for the first 15 or so years as a fan lol) and it was the big record guys like Big Nog and Fedor that drew me in. I was just mesmerised by the stats more than anything, then I would watch the videos which thankfully were readily available at that point, and that confirmed that some of these big record guys were actually insanely good.

I don't think I watched a live event for at least 2 years after developing an interest, it was all just watching cool fights and I suppose 'researching' though I wasn't really doing it for any purpose or end - I just loved watching these guys put it all on the line in generally very exciting fights!

Started with the David Carradine Kung Fu series and Ali-Frazier boxing, up thru Tyson-Lewis era when I dropped that totally for MMA. From late 1980's locally promoted "Tuff-Man" competitions, to seeing it go big time, catching UFC 1 thru 4 as they happened. Only casually kept from 2000 up until the TUF Series started, and constantly since.

Started watching fights by getting high and watching Korean Zombie fights on some weird Russian site. A university colleague had told me about this crazy Korean fighter guy. This is in 2016 or 2017.
First card I watched live was UFC 217, I had never seen GSP so I wanted to catch his return.
I guess it technically makes me a McGregor casual timeline-wise but I didn't exactly tune in for him.

Been a fan since day 1 fam dun kno 🚫🧢

Back when slaps deh pon TBS 👋💥📺👀

Im that fan that just out grew it. Once competition died, then the scene slowly dies, and now we got this new age stuff, and imo, the fans expectations are alot lower these days.

We would have laughed back in the day if a fighter got a bjj blackbelt in 4 years. Bj penn atleast proved he was worthy. These new guys just dont have that world class to their grappling anymore. Very rarely you get a high level wrestler anymore, when back then, they were too common.

I cant pin point the exact thing, cause i think its multiple. But the sport is just not as fun anymore
