What is wrong with Marlon Moraes?

Crushed dreams syndrome:

work for years to get to title shot, come close but come up short.

Then the next fights aren’t for a title and the road back to a title shot is back up a steep mountain, but everyone you face treats the fight with you like their own personal SuperBowl/fight of their life

LOTS of fighters fall apart after losing a title shot or title fight, especially if they were competitive/could have been close to winning.

Almost every fighter loses a few times in their career....his just happen to be in a row

I'm guessing him and fellow speedy striker Barboza KO'd each other many times in training.

Check the UFC record, take away two fluke KO's against Sterling and Jimmy Riviera and you're left with a handful of split decisions and a gilly over old man Assuncao, who beat Marlon once.

Not that impressive inside the UFC.

His loses have been domination or embarrassing as well.

It started with the Cejudo fight and the pressure keeps stacking up after every finish loss after.

He's been changing camps to try and fix things but it's more the mental aspect. Once the fight starts slipping from him or he starts getting hit hard he freezes up now. He needs a sports psychologist or someone (including himself) to strengthen his mind and forget the losses and gain that confidence back and go back to how he was a few fights ago.

His fear of getting finished is what's causing him to get finished.

He can also work on his movement/footwork or fight people with less of a reach/size advantage. He's a stationary fighter so that doesn't match up well with fighters with longer reach or that use movement/footwork.
Yeah tough to argue, very good points and thank you for adding the insight. I would venture to say that his mental anxiety during a fight would contribute largely to the type of stamina depletion we have seen from him, particularly against Cejudo. I do stand by him looking good against Aldo, but there is no denying that he hit a wall against Cejudo.

CCC broke his psyche and smashed his aura. Then the Aldo thing happened when he looked like a killer for about 30 seconds - stunning Aldo with that kick - then when he could not finish Jose did everything he could to avoid actually fighting and not get finished again.

Bully and Front Runner mentality. He is a lion when things are going his way but turns to a cub as soon as things don't go his way (i.e. his opponent survives his bum rush).

Could be due to all the body mass and weight cut. Bigger muscles is more draining on cardio especially when it comes to striking.

For sure -- crazy how tiring it is simply to keep your hands up when sparring.

Very true, it requires a different kind of conditioning to do that. It can't be replicated with weight lifting workouts and usually specifically trained in order to build endurance in the arms and shoulders.

I really don't think he could make the weight. I think 135 is hell for him to begin with. I can't remember where I heard it, but it was that Marlon and Edson Barboza are very close in weight.. make of that what you will.

Fair enough. Not sure what the answer is, although I suppose one possibility is that he’s “just” a top 8-15 bantamweight in the world. I was a little slow to come around on him as an elite contender, and eventually had to concede that he was after he’d stopped his third good opponent in a row. But at this point would anyone be surprised if Sterling or even Rivera beat him in a rematch? While he’s a big hitter at the weight, it’s beginning to seem like early KO or defeat for him.

He’s still an exciting guy that will probably win a couple fights in a row at some point and would be a fun opponent for Cody, TJ, Edgar, Munoz, etc.

He's fought some high level competition, shit happens.
