What is wrong with Marlon Moraes?

Moraes is super athletic and a very powerful, fast and dynamic striker. What people figured out is that hes static, a little chinny, tends to gas when pressured and doesn't have the best defense (which he compensates with by controlling range).

I think hes sorta been found out, still elite for sure though. He's in his early 30s and been KOd in his last 3 of 4? He should take 6-8 months off and just train, work on some of his short comings and recover cognitively.

I'm still a casual but I would guess its psychological. The Aldo loss seemed to be the catalyst with how much it bothered and upset him with Aldo taking it in stride and then calling out the GOAT.
He's only 32 so he still has a good amount of time to make a title run. At least hopefully, I'm not sure if older fighters can last long in smaller weight classes.

Yes I think if he solves the "unwired" part, he can still make a run. Physically the dude is top shelf. Strong, quick, explosive. Age seems not to be an issue at all.

Yes I think you make a good proposal.
He should take a good half a year off and get his shit together. He certainy looks to be on a spiral at the moment. Sad to see.

Cejudo took his soul. He's a shell of himself now.

I thought for sure the Font fight would have gotten him back on track but nope. The Sandhagen could have just been him getting caught but he just doesn't look as scary as he did when he was on that run.

The fight game can be brutal. Four fights ago he looked like an absolute killer in there. Not so much anymore.

The mental aspect definitely plays a big part. Moraes has everything a fighter needs to succeed, all the tools in the toolbox. I think he needs to get his confidence back and fight a lower ranked opponent. Before that he needs to get his head right, maybe see a sports psychologist or something.

Looking forward to Moraes coming back and stepping up. Two awful losses in a row now.
Same thing happened to many after Fedor smoked them.

I thought he looked good against Aldo -- it was the Sandhagen fight and the most recent one that left me a little flummoxed.

Moraes cuts too much weight and it effects him during his fights.

Pacing has always been a big factor with him, now add the other things into the equation and it’s a recipe for a quick falloff... leaving his longtime trainer for ATT, now he’s a little fish in a big pond (literally), shattered confidence from losing his last 3-4 (he looked off and gun shy in the Aldo win), 30+ Pro fights and now his chin seems cracked... it’s a conundrum of things.

Someone mentioned how easily he'd been dropped his last fight to and brought up dehydration as an issue. I would like to see him move up, he may be a little smaller. I think he'd make up for it in speed / power easily, the dude seems so fucking bulky for a bantamweight. He is definitely a fucking specimen.

I’d agree he may definitely benefit from moving up with his gas tank performance wise, the only question being if his chin is actually cracked or if it’s similar to when Dillashaw dropped to 125 and the weightcut is actually effecting his ability to take a shot. He’s getting up there in age, so either or both being a factor wouldn’t surprise me. Honestly for where he’s at right now in the BW picture quite far from title contention, it wouldn’t be a huge risk taking a fight at FW and testing the waters. He’d definitely be a smallish FW, but so was Frankie and he was very successful at FW obviously just falling short of getting the belt.

He’s been fighting a long time. Sometimes guys lose it over night. He was dominating Cejudo until he lost and he has looked like shit ever since.

He shouldn't have left Mark Henry. Good coach. Now we're seeing him in retirement league bellator next month.

WTF he left Mark Henry ? Jeez...Unfortunately it seems that the top strikers at BW are way ahead of him now, Marlon's big head kick is not enough anymore.

Rogan. He thought Aldo beat him. Moraes landed the majority of clean shots in that fight, and with a win deserved to fight Yan for the belt. Yet Aldo got it, off of a loss. Then Marlon starts losing. Motivation. And he's not known for his chin, while Font has good hands and hits hard. A match-up thing.

Up until recently, that guy looked like an absolute killer and I honestly thought he was on his way to a belt.

Then, the 3 rd against Cejudo happened. IIRC, he was spectacular in that fight until that round when he gassed.

Since then he has had a pretty bad streak. What is wrong with him? Is it his chin? Psychology perhaps? I mean the guy is the full package but it just feels like something got unwired...........Thoughts?

People will troll this question.

He is fun to watch. Throughout UFC history, I have seen many exciting explosive fighters lose to boring or less explosive but more technical opponents. A fight is a fight. When you can pounce sometimes you overreach. He still has some years left so I expect him to get better.
