What is wrong with Marlon Moraes?

Coach Parcells : After awhile ( in fairness- AWHILE ), you are what you are. I'm at that point with this guy.

Anyone can land in the top 5- 6 for a short while .....hell- even lucky enough to get a title shot.

A true elite fighter will hold down that stamp with a lengthy stay inside the top 5-6 of his division

Marlon looked the role when he first got to UFC. I just cant ignore his results - and there are exceptions to the rule( like everything in life ) for whatever specific reasons..... I just dont place him in that company.
 
He's fighting hard stylistic match ups that know his weakness. His opponents know that if they don't stand down and can pressure him, he'll eventually fold. He's also just fighting some of the best strikers in his division.

He needs a step back in competition.

This. It crossed my mind that maybe Marlon could make flyweight. When he was coming up I didn’t expect him to make it as far as he did because he seemed a little small, but then he just kept cracking everyone and it didn’t matter. Now he’s having trouble.

I thought he lost motivation because he got smacked by cejudo...goes to fight Aldo....so that Aldo fight was close. Real close. It could go either way. He gets the nod from the judges, and had probably accepted the bout under the context of “winner gets a TS”.

Then Dana basically says “well, sure he won, but not in my book. Did anyone actually score it for marlon? He LOST THAT FIGHT AND INCOMPETENCY IN JUDGING IS RUINING MMA”

Well, if you believe media scores are a decent measuring stick, (I do) then you can see that Dana had NO BUSINESS interfering. It was a 50/50 fight. Could go either way, and the media scores reflected that http://www.mmadecisions.com/decision/10779/Marlon-Moraes-vs-Jose-Aldo

So let’s talk about this. Is it really a promoters job to decide who won? And even if they don’t agree with a decision, is it fair to do this to someone? Don’t get it twisted, I’m not a huge fan of Marlon, but he deserved better. And you bet your ass this was a psychological motivation killer. He did NOT want to be in there on Saturday. That was very clear to me.

Those shots to the head also adjusted his Vision and he realized he is married to a humongus.
 
Looks definitely like a psychological issue to me. Moraes is just another one of those fighters that are never the same after being Ko’d. Right now a feather would probably knock him out.
 
I think he carried fear into each fight after each loss

Can't really exactly explain it but he looked like he was scared of gasing after the Cejudo loss.
He was pretty gun shy and had a low output in the Aldo fight(after the first 2 minutes).

Then after the Sandhagen ko, he was scared of getting koed so he went to the ground,gassed and got hit on his weak ass chin

I really don't think he could make the weight. I think 135 is hell for him to begin with. I can't remember where I heard it, but it was that Marlon and Edson Barboza are very close in weight.. make of that what you will.
 
The fight game can be brutal. Four fights ago he looked like an absolute killer in there. Not so much anymore.

The mental aspect definitely plays a big part. Moraes has everything a fighter needs to succeed, all the tools in the toolbox. I think he needs to get his confidence back and fight a lower ranked opponent. Before that he needs to get his head right, maybe see a sports psychologist or something.

Looking forward to Moraes coming back and stepping up. Two awful losses in a row now.
 
I haven't followed his whole career but nowadays he seems to gas in about 2 minutes... You have a problem if you get out cardio'd by Jose Aldo.

I think people on here underestimate what getting KO'd or taking a vicious beating does to you. It can changecareers in my opinion.

Marlon cuts a huge amount of weight. He's more likely to move up a weight class than he is to drop one

I suspect so, his first "proper" loss in a very long time and it does seem to have hurt his confidence significantly, perhaps partly a fear of gassing again?
