There seems to be a trend recently of some sort of idea that Khabib was overrated because he never fought anybody good or moved up in weight.
Never moved to 170:
Several greats never moved up in weight, DJ, Silva never won LHW belt. Jon Jones was considered the GOAT by many before his move to HW due to his domination. This is never discussed that they never moved up or won a belt above their weight class to bring down their legacy.
"But he was a weight bully, 170 would be his normal weight class anyway"
He may of been in the 190s or even 200s in his prime. But on fight night he was never more than 185. Which is about what Poirier and Tony Ferguson weight.
Didn't fight best opponents/clear division:
The biggest names he didn't fight during this time were Alvarez, Ferguson, Cerrone, Oliviera, Hooker, Lee, Dariush. Ferguson would've gotten wrestled. Alvarez would put up a good fight I think but lost the title shot when he lost to Poirier and then left. Cerrone was old, Oliviera only had 1 ranked win I believe and the rest weren't ranked high enough.
Maybe you don't consider him MMA GOAT but it is unquestionable he is top 5. Khabib had done enough and knew he could keep fighting and keep winning but wasn't in it for the money and didn't want to take unnecessary damage. To act like he ran from anybody is delusional.
Can this idea officially be declared debunked?

EDIT:
I understand this has been an argument since Khabib has been in the game but it seems like there have been a lot of forums open that are condeming his career achievements, a lot more than when he was in the game. I wonder why...

What do you mean "recently"?

People have been calling for Khabib's head ever since he walked away from the UFC unblemished as the most dominant fighter of all time, especially after he snuffed Dana's son.

The millions of Conor fans across the internet moved on from being a fan of Conor to trying to besmirch Khabib in GOAT discussions because he left them with no one to cheer for.

Every fighter gets hate, but people not having Khabib at the same GOAT status, as you have, is not hating, it's just a difference in opinion. I know a lot of Sherbros have a hard time dealing with differing opinions though.

But people love to be dramatic and make it all, poor Khabib look at all the hate he gets, because people don't see it the same way as me!

Also, he did fight Barboza ...

It's okay to question Khabib's longevity because he didn't stick around long but people trying to pick at his close to perfect career is excessive to the extreme.

There's a thread about how X fighter who got his ass kicked a million times is better than Khabib every time someone wins a fight. People act like the guy never fought but in reality he has one of the longest win streaks in UFC history tied with GSP and it took him way more wins than most GOAT's to get his shot.

Losses and dominance no longer matter though, it's only about how many title defences you have.

Let's not conflate with how good he is with how long he stuck around for.

"He's the best ever, but never stuck around long".

Both statements can be true.

Khabib has no argument as being a top 5 all time. Jones, GSP, Silva, MM, Aldo all have far better resumes.
I guess we should listen to Conor fans on forums and not the actual GOAT's themselves like Jones who have Khabib in his Top 5 all time despite his lack of title defences because they can see how damn good he is.

Khabib fled the scene. He escaped like a rat in the middle of his prime.

Some people put more importance on the length of the winning streak, others put more inportance on the quality of opponents faced, and again others might prioritize the difficulty of the style match ups. Difference of opinion. I myself don't think the title defenses are the end all be all. But they usually are at a higher calibre and usually (not always) have really shown to have earned the shot, meaning that they are at a height of their career when the champ faces them. So I do think they should weigh heavily in the discussion. However sometimes some wins before or after being a champ can be just as impressive as a title defense, like Khabib's win over RDA. But on the other hand, the quality of a lot of the guys Khabib faced before the UFC was very questionable, so that's why some people don't value the long win streak as much, as they feel a large part was done to pad his record. You probably know all this already, because it comes up al the time, because this subject has been discussed to death. But for some reason it's still one of the main things you keep talking about. That's your prerogative of course, but seems kinda boring to me.

True.

I have no qualms with anyone willing to make an argument against Khabib's achievements even though I'll still argue why I believe he's the best ever. He left the door wide open for that by retiring so young.

I can tell the difference between a hater and someone with a reasonable argument.

I know a lot about Khabib though. I look at variables outside of his faultless fighting career like his Sambo career, his coaching career, and the gym stories and footage I've seen. I believe he is every bit as good as they say he is and the best ever.

The guys he beats up in the gym all the time like Islam, Usman, Umar are taking over MMA, that tells me all I need to know.
