What if?: Frankie Edgar vs Anthony Pettis in 2011

The planned UFC/WEC unification match is something nobody really talks about anymore.

So back in 2010, the WEC was closing and there was an announcement that the Benson/Pettis winner would face the Edgar/Maynard winner in a unification bout. The fight ended up not happening because of the snoozefest we got that was Guida vs Pettis. What if the fight actually happened?

Scenario: It's 2011 and Anthony Pettis decides not to fight Clay Guida and will instead wait for Edgar/Maynard 3 to pan out. Edgar ends up winning and the unification fight is set. Who walks out the unified UFC/WEC champion?

Championship fight so it's 5 rounds.

Call me crazy but I was more interested in Maynard vs Pettis had Gray been able to put Frankie out in the 2nd fight.

It wouldn't have been such a clear loss for Pettis like it would have been vs Frankie imo.

Boxing with level changes and chain wrestling, Pettis wouldn't know where he was gonna end up. Plus all that flashy strikes that Pettis throws leaves him open for TDs.

It wouldn't have been such a clear loss for Pettis like it would have been vs Frankie imo.

Maynard would probably rag doll Pettis on the ground worse than Edgar. Only problem might be Maynard's cardio in a 5 round fight.

Another fight that would have been interesting at the time was Penn/Maynard instead of Penn/Edgar. Maynard beat Edgar but he didn't have clear enough wins to get a title shot
