What happened to Mr Burns?

He got exposed by the new breed, the evolution of MMA is just so amazingly fast, top fighters of the past like GSP wouldn't even be top 15 at this point.
Ya ok, GSP could roll off the couch tomorrow and probably still 50-45 the current WW champ.

What happens when you match a 38 year old to an undefeated 25 year on a huge win streak. I was just telling my friends how easy this match was and how obvious the result was. Father time is undefeated, but UFC should atleast give guys like Burns a couple gimme fights in between.

My point was that the sport has evolved and that attack from Woodley would not work today
I don't know about that, Belal what's his name was just WW champ. There is no universe where Belal beats GSP.

2010 version of Jon Jones beats any 205 today.

Anderson of 2010 would matrix DDP.

Etc...

Thompson was like 40, he's losing to everyone he fights these days.

That doesnt detract from Belals performance. Thompson had strong takedown defence still but Belal just went straight through him

So you're saying that you think Belal beats prime GSP?

No, but why is an era weaker just because someone else isnt there? An era is judged by average opponent.
Ok, so I'm not sure what we're talking about then, all I said was that GSP beats any WW today.

Also, name a current 205 that can beat 2010 version of Jon Jones.

Would any current 185 survive 2010 Anderson Silva?

Would you be confident in picking Aspinal to beat 2010 Cain?

I would probably lean towards the old guard in every one of those scenarios if I'm honest.

yes. he knocks him out.
How confident are you tho? He could knock him out like JDS yes, and he could also get overwhelmed and bludgeoned like JDS.

I noticed you ignored Anderson and Jones.

I know this is trolling, but if it isn't, remember that Luque is still in the top 15 at WW.

Is it though? We just saw a young new breed 25 year old take out Burns WAAAAY more easily than Khamzat did, and it's not like that was very long ago so you can't use the Burns past prime argument.

The reality is that the sport evolves so fast that 31 year old Khamzat is barely relevant at 170 anyone compared to the next generation like Morales (and Morales is bigger than Khamzat yet can still make 170 due to new breed weight cutting science).

The only reason these older guys hang on at the top so long is rank squatting and fighting one another on a merry go round without facing the next generation. That's why when they finally do fight like JDM vs Belal or Burns vs Morales, it's a one sided beatdown.

Anderson is too far back, jones is a tougher call. Khalil has a shot against him for sure. Jan... I dont know, would have to think about it.
