What Happened to Claudia Gadelha?

She was actually pretty good at timing & countering strikes back in the day and did a good job of using her striking to setup her wrestling, but now she just tries to strike or goes for the most telegraphed takedown attempts with no setup.

Seems like a lot of these mma fighters lose all their steam after building up to and losing their title fight

i can totally imagine that going 110% for years and push push pushing like a maniac, only to fail in your goal, having made all kinds of sacrifice, must force you to reevaluate your life and how you spend your time. just tough to give it all and fall short

She recently lost a decision to Nina Ansaroff... Nina. Ansaroff. I don't think anybody considers her to be one of the best strawweights imo.

Up until her decision loss to Jessica Andrade, Gadelha had great cardio, she could push her exhausting pace for 3 rounds, and even had 2 great rounds against Jedrzejczyk, until she faded. But she still had good cardio for the first few rounds. And in 2017 she was riding a win over Courtney Casey into a fight with Karolina Kowalkiewicz, whom she defeated by first round submission.

Then she fought Jessica Andrade and got beat up over three rounds.

She struggled and even got dropped by Esparza, despite winning the decision and she then fought Nina Ansaroff. She won the first round after a takedown (honestly cannot remember), but then she proceeded to get picked apart by sloppy and mostly lacklustre striking techniques by Ansaroff (who is going to get smashed by Suarez).

Gadelha used to be a really good contender and even second best at SW, back in 2016. Now she can barely last one round without gassing and losing fights she wouldn't have a few years ago. Did Brian Ortega break her?

Thoughts?
I follow her on Instagram she doesnt seem to be doing much MMA more so just basic exercise and traveling.
I last recall Claudia in her pre-fight interview before fighting Nina she felt Nina Ansaroff wasnt even on her level....
That could have been a soul searching loss. She got beat by someone she thought had no chance. That likely fucked her head up.

She got tiddies. She got her own gym etc etc

never forget how JJ was dropped by a weak jab lol

Wasn't really that great to begin with imo

Hasn't been the same since she left Nova Uniao really.

Ansaroff deserves credit though, she's improved a ton and is one of the better strawweights out there right now.

I remember Nunes talking her up about how good she was and the wave she would make in the division and I think I, like many, just assumed oh that’s nice, she’s saying kind things about and overstating the potential of her girlfriend- I thought that’s all it was. Nina always struck me as a middle of the road type. But you’re absolutely right, lately, she’s done very well for herself and has clearly improved.

If she managed to upset Suarez, that would be insane.

In reality, I think Suarez beats her on the ground with minimal issue but the fact that she’s gotten to this spot, presumably a number one contenders fight, is impressive.

Too much dick and not enough training.

Nina is underrated and claudia has gotten worse and worse ever since she left nova uniao and started gym hopping.

Combination of her stagnating, while other fighters got better.

You’re simply not giving other fighters enough credit.

Ive heard a Keto diet can lead to 'stagnation' with some ladies

well , at least with their lady parts

She moved to a team in the US. Not even a super team. I believe it's a Jackson Wink affiliate, in NM!!! Why not just go to the real deal?

Unless you're from a country with super under developed MMA programs, you're better off staying at your home gym, if you aren't coming to a super gym in the US (AKA, ATT, JW, Kings, Alliance etc.). She was at Nova Uniao, THE gym in BZ. I wonder what she was thinking.

She said Nova was too backward and the training was too tough and draining in one interview, and things were more advanced in the US with more attention being paid to recovery.

Esparza won that fight as well. Claudia spends too much time training from her back....

I mean that makes complete sense, but the results speak for themselves. Nova Unaio is still thriving (Aldo, Pantoja, Dantas) while Gadelha's career has taken an obvious dip. She isn't losing close fights, her performances have obviously taken a dip.
