This can be very objective. I would say, something like a serbian film is just too fake to make the list. The effects, acting, and such count it out even if the idea was there. Cannibal Holocaust. It should have some weight. The director had to do 6 months in jail cause they thought that shit was real.
Aftermath 1994. It is a 30 min short done well enough to sicken most people.
The Japanese Guinea pig series. The whole series was pretty brutal, but I think number 7 was pretty much just someone torturing and maiming a girl for an hour. Again, this filmaker was also in trouble with the law because it looked like a snuff film.
Anyone have something to add?

‘Irreversible’ subway scene always delivers.

Same with ‘fire extinguisher meets head’ scene.

Good movie.

Requiem For a Dream is one of those movies that legit got to me. It didnt even need to be violent. I know what happened but I never want to see it again.

Some of tthe other things that will be mentioned are just dumb torture porn. This fucked my head up at the worst time possible. Great Film.

Scenes that were mainstream but extremely effective violence, first ones to come to mind were "give that man a hand" and curb stomp.

Not even going to mention the movies, they're pretty obvious.

Cannibal Holocaust has the fun legend behind it because people weren't used to seeing that (or any) level of gore when it was made.

Now? It's child's play. "Gore porn" as a genre is absolutely shit, but graphically surpasses stuff like Cannibal Holocaust. Even mainstream stuff like Hostel blows it out of the water.

August Underground series deserves an honorable mention. People thought they were real (or at least the first one) for quite a while.

I was going to drop some names like Irreversible, Ichi, and Tokyo Gore Police but you're using "objectivity" as your measuring stick for movies therefore, only snuff films can be considered as the most violent and those stuff are just not really that interesting artistic-wise.

While I enjoy a lot of movies that contain very violent imagery & gore, I'm not a "gorehound" by any means. If the violence & gore is an integral part of the film's plot then I'm all for it. Some films just wouldn't have the same punch without it. But if a film's whole purpose is to wallow in it just for the sake of shocking & disgusting its audience then I'm really not interested.

For instance, something like I SAW THE DEVIL, Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD & BONE TOMAHAWK are great films that just happen to have have extreme violence in them because it adds to their effectiveness. While films like A SERBIAN FILM & CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST are nothing without their gore.

there are fringe movies that get gnarly, but theyre usually cheesy. as far as a quality movie, the first one that came to my mind was a scene in bone tomahawk where a dude gets scalped and then... well... go watch it. its nasty.

Passion of the Christ. The chunks of flesh flying out of his back due to the nine tails lashings was a nice touch. Im sure there are many others.

Machete comes to mind too. Escaping three or four stories by using a guys intestines as a rope was haute violence.

I don't know if ever made, but I was shocked with the gore in 'Hostel: Part II', 2007.
