What does McGregor do now? (mature please, long post)

I think Conor learned a lot from the fight based on his analysis of the fight in the post fight press conference. He basically said that he learned he needs to pace himself against durable opponents, particularly at a higher weight class. Basically, he unloaded everything on Diaz's chin with full power and gassed himself out since Nate's chin held up. He acknowledged his mistakes, which is a great sign. He turned off the persona and spoke the truth about his performance and what he needs to learn from it.

I have nothing but respect for Conor. If all of the champions are A students, Conor went for extra credit and bombed. But he is still an A student like the rest of the champions. In fact, maybe he's A+ since he had the guts to challenge himself and take a risk.

I rewatched the fight. Mcgregor was not destroying diaz in the 1st. It was actually pretty close and diaz landed some good shots.

The first part of the 2nd round mcgregor actually did better, but diaz was game and beat him in that round.

Mcgregor did not get arrogant and leave his hands down, he was trying to attack and KO nate the whole time, but he couldnt. Diaz hit him with some 1-2 and he couldnt handle it.

What does mcgregor do now? Go home, rebuild his confidence and go back to being him, a good 145lber or maybe 155

He never hit his chin. He repeatly landed knockout shots but they were high on the head. If they land on the jaw its probably lights out. Nate landed one clean shot on the chin and it wobbled Connor. He needs to hit the button to get a knockout in the 170# division. Take alittle power off and try to be more accurate. Thats what Nate and Nick do so well. You could get hit with a bat and not get knocked out if its not in the right spot or get a clean jab to the jaw and get rocked.

I rooted for Diaz but I enjoy having Connor around doing his thing. It's a fight and no matter who your fighting at that level anybody can win on a given night. This place is so full of blowhards that think there is no way fighter A can beat fighter B. They speak in absolutes.

If only they realized anybody can beat anybody this place would make a lot more sense and actual intelligent discussions could take place.

I think he needs to work on his take-down defense, grappling and think about keeping his hands up and stop with the mind gamed during stand-up. Conor is smart. A lot of the mind games and verbal gymnastics are psychological ploys (beyond ways to generate fan interest and money) to cover up his weaknesses on the ground. If he can rattle a good grappler and lull them into his game, he wins. That didn't work against Diaz. Eventually, you have to start filling those holes in your game. Everyone has them.

If he does this, he's going to be hard for anyone (within reason) to beat. I'd like to see him defend his belt and vacate the title. That weight cut is just too much. He's a natural for the 155 lb division.

Old habits die hard. He's been fighting that way for years and won't change now. Just look at Anderson Silva - he threw away the Bisping fight just by standing against the cage like the clown he's always been.
