Oh gotcha.

They know what I feel about it, but I’m a “when in Rome” guy. I will still celebrate with family for their sake. Still hold hands while my aunt prays at Xmas dinner or whatever. It’s a small thing for them that I can easily do. Though they have also learned not to be too preachy, or get high and mighty, because they don’t want to hear what I think about it all. We all play a role when we have to.

It is, but if you come at me forcefully with your beliefs, and act like they are completely true, I am going to say my peace as well. If you just want me to participate, that’s cool. Just don’t then act like I must believe as well. That’s all. This isn’t about just randomly giving family and friends my opinions on anything.

I don’t push my ideas on anyone, but if I did, I would expect them to give me theirs as well. Nobody is beyond reproach if they come at you. Only my opinion, of course.

It reminds me of being a young kid I guess.

Before moving to a Jewish / Asian neighborhood my sister and I were the only non black kids at our school. I vaguely remember the school having special events and curriculum etc. during the month.

Once we moved, black history month has not been very relevant in my life.
