History What does Black History Month....

I hate music.

I kid, I don't hate holidays i just think they've been overly monetized which sort of wrecks their original purpose. Quality time with people you love is my jam.

As for music, ABC - anything but country.

You?

Blues is my first love, then that country, folk, stuff with some grit attached to it.

Now add...

Harry Manx
Amos Lee
Larkin Poe
Billy D and the Hoodoos
G love
Reverend Shawn Amos
Alabama Shakes
Tom Waits
Hans Thessnik
Ben Howard
Kelly Joe Phelps

Looking at how things were back in the day to what we see today, that is some history actually.
Sure. I just don’t have reverence for the concept of a racial history month. Again, though, that really doesn’t matter. Others do, and its mere existence doesn’t bother me at all either.

We have schools like Grambling, Jackson State, ya know those HBCU;s. must be around 40 of them, that's racial, but...who cares?

Ebony Magazine, JET Magazine, no bg deal.. Hell, Motown.

Those are all cool. Enjoy them all year round.

I feel the same about most holidays. What you all hold sacred, I don’t. I’m sure most feel the opposite, and give no crap about what I hold dear. Not really sorry about the situation. It be like that.

As time goes on people are starting to figure out yep, we are different and that is a good thing.

Imagine only one beer, only one band, only one fast food joint, diversity is a good thing.

Fatigue, man. We have to hear about all the great stuff black people did, a lot of it not that great. There is a month for other races, like Hispanic, Asian, Native American, etc. but no one cares. And that's not a bad thing. I'm Asian and we don't have to constantly tell other about the great shit we did.

We just do it. We try and improve our live without getting some kind of weak-ass participation trophy. I'm honestly just sick of having to hear about it. You can call it being proud or whatever, I call it Pride. Like one of the deadly sins.

Honestly, if they black community would try and focus on having more accountability, it would help them more than throwing this nonsense in everyone's face every year. I'm just sick of it, TBH.

Here's an example. I'm a substitute teacher (scary, I know). You can guarantee during Feb all sorts of elaborate displays are going to go up. And STAY up for the rest of the school year. And literally stay up for the start of the next school year.

I think Asian history month is May, not sure. I've maybe seen one school put up a display, which got taken down the next time I went there. The point is we don't need to be patted on the back for what we did. We focus on being a productive member of society, something I don't see much in the black community.

Anyway, had to get that off my chest. Lol. Also, this sounds more like a War Room post (I know your intentions were pure). If I offended anyone here... I don't give a shit. It is what it is, man.

When I was young my taste in music was extremely narrow.

Thankfully over the last 20 years I have become sort of the opposite. I can now listen to everything from 2pac, to Madonna, to Coldplay, to Duran Duran, to Deadmau5, to Mozart, to Stevie Wonder.

I like the fact those who had some impact on this country can get some recgonition this month. is that some big deal, nope just a cool thing to do,

Over on music forums the imapact the black community has made on what we hear today is huge. Nice to see those pioneers getting some props.

Just a nice few days once a year.

Personally, I don't care who celebrates what. My issue, is when it becomes mandatory for a person or company to celebrate a certain day or month, and if they don't, it becomes the equivalent of being against it in the eyes of some.

Don't really care but it doesn't offend me. Anyone can call any month anything they want and I really don't care. I think it was Morgan Freeman who was upset about Black History Month actually. He said it's ridiculous and doesn't want Black History month. He says it's all American History.

I'm taking the entire month off to prove I care more about Black people than all of you.
