A Richmond County, Georgia Sheriffs Deputy remained employed and received pay on administrative leave for years after he was decertified as a LEO for attacking another deputy with a flashlight while he was trying to give CPR to a gunshot victim.
This happened back in 2020. It took ten months for the deputy to even get suspended despite attacking a coworker, and then he was put on administrative leave after being charged with two felony counts by the DA.
After he was charged and decertified, the previous sheriff refused to fire him and was seemingly going to let him to continue collecting pay indefinitely until a new sheriff was elected.
Also, the new Sheriff technically didn't even fire him, so he would still be able to reapply for his job if he beats the charges at trial.
Additionally, the DA still hasn't set a trial date after several years. It's not like this is a complicated case. There is video of the attack from another deputy's bodycam.
The amount of ass covering that cops get in the system is insane.
Any non-LEO who hit a cop in the back of the hit with a blunt object while said cop was trying to give CPR to a dying person would be thrown under a fucking prison, but this asshole got a multi-year paid vacation for doing it.
