He has amazing power but he no doubt needs to add something to his game to compete consistently well with fighters in the LW division.

With his current skill set which on the elite level he is very one dimensional, he really needs to add something to his game. Like I think he has a shot at beating any lightweight on any given night with his power alone but unless he gets extremely lucky and lands clean shots consistently whilst avoiding the cage and ground then it's not possible to have a consistent win streak at the higher division as there's the many variables and situations he will be faced with. Even at the lighter weight he big troubles with a wrestler and was only able to stay in it due to that wrestler gassing.

He had chosen to focus on his movement which is very beneficial in avoiding the take down and going in and out with his power left, it works great when he has the reach advantage but as shown against Diaz when you're forced to work your way in and stand and trade that time spent is mostly wasted. In the fight against Diaz we saw that he stood there with his hands down and spammed the upper cut, as time went on they came slower, drained his energy and all while he was eating shots.

With this in mind, and his current skill sets I see that for him to win he needs to land early and hard. People have said he gassed himself which he did but against the rangier boxer and his limited skill he needs to push the pace early and hope to land cleaning. As such he needs to present a high volume approach which isn't always going to work out for him. Against Diaz if not this approach then what? With his current skill set all I can think of is for him to adopt a points based game plan.. but can he outpoint Diaz? Can he outpoint the other rangier fighters?

Lets say he goes up against a wrestler, what are his options with his current skill set? Go all out and risk getting tired again in the 1st, which is the last thing you want to do against a wrestler. Or does he play the point fighting approach and look to take it into the later rounds thus giving the wrestler more opportunities to take him down.

Apart from the kicks to the body (which he will want to avoid against wrestlers) his kicks aren't that great, he doesn't have a good traditional kick. So his only real threat is power left hand. This is a great asset to have no doubt but he needs to add something more trialed and tested like wrestling / bjj / kick boxing. Does he have enough time?

First off, he needs to humble himself and realize that the size advantage he was speaking about so freely in regards to fighting smaller men is a real thing. Then he has to come to the conclusion that he's got to diversify his offensive approach, because at higher weight classes he can't dictate range solely with his hands because he doesn't have the ability to use a traditional kicking offense and doesn't have any offensive grappling.

Afterward, he's going to have to learn how to mix it up better and not throw bomb after bomb at guys. His straight left isn't going to have the same effect it did against the smaller guys, and his power isn't translating. He also needs to invest in some head movement because his chin doesn't appear to be holding up when bigger guys hit him.

You could also even question his cardio after 196. He may need to invest in a stair master.

Or...

He could keep plying his trade while fighting much smaller men he can bully around the cage so his smack talk will seem relevant again.

a new camp and an iota of ground skills for starters

he should refine his touch-butt-of-death, it looked a little off against Nate

Honestly? Heart. He's a bully. When's in control he doesn't stfu and fights like it, but as soon as he loses his edge he buckles. The second he shot on Nate he quit. Did he actually think that would have been a good idea? lol. Gave up his back right away, no hip escape attempts, no 2 on 1, no chin tucking, tapped crazy fast.

The blue print is out on him big time.

How about he defends his title at FW and cut out all the higher weight bullshit?

He was living under the impression that everybody would crumble under his power, when it didn't happen and when he got popped right on the chin, the look of disbelief on his face when he realised that he was fighting a guy who wasn't at all intimidated by him.

He looked great round 1 he was landing the big shots and avoiding most of Diaz punches. He was loading up to finish with one shot and after the first he had lost a step and the blood on Diaz does what it always does makes him fight harder. Once Diaz started finding his range Connor started to fade, he was rocked hard and then kept taking shots so I think he tried a takedown because he was desperately trying to hang on, he was getting tagged.

To improve at that weight he needs wrestling and BJJ his striking will always give him a chance but he's going to need to string more combos than just one punch power shots, and extensive BJJ work. He's fine just ran into one of the tougher guys out there who could take his shots and keep coming for him

But without working his ground game guys like RDA and Khabib probably maul him

A decade of bjj and wrestling. Also removing the ego in the cage, no place for it during a fight. He's smart so he will only fight strikers from here on out, who have zero interest in tapping him. He can write his own ticket so expect: Aldo (win) - Cerrone (win) - winner of RDA vs Diaz (loss) - GSP (win) - Lawler/Hendricks (loss) ~2018 retire. If he ever fights Edgar or Mendes on a full camp, it would shock me more than Jon Jones going 0-3 in the next year.
