History What Brought You To Sherdog

I came for the karate but stayed for the shoops 👍
After watching tuf season 2 as a 13 year old on spike after my parents went to bed, I came up with the idea of introducing elements to the octagon, such as water, uneven terrain, air via suspending the fighters to a flying pulley system, and of course fire.

I needed somewhere to share my amazing idea so I googled the ultimate fighter discussion and found sherdog. I didn’t even understand the urc was a separate entity I thought the whole thing was the reality show. I made my thread got called a :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: and immediately yellow carded and called a “white belt piece of shit”.

The rest is history 🥰

lol 🤣 🤣 🤣

Classic story bud. You're definitely one of the good guys around here. I remember when we first became buds here; you had a dog with a wig AV and a different name. Good times bud đź«‚

Needed something to kill time while at work back in the day and i was into mma.

I like Martial arts and fighting. Back then forums were the go to place for online discussions before folks lost their brains with Social media echo chambers.

This place was more focused on MMA and I behaved myself far more here than some forums when I was in my 20's

I was part of probably over 100 forums back in the day. The internet was far more savage back then circa 2001-2012. Trolling and raiding was common fun too. Forum Raids were incredibly funny back when forums did not have "approval processes". Invading Britney Spears forums at 3AM and plastering tubgirl and lemonparty pictures everywhere.....lol. Folks would wake up and not have options to delete all posts by 1 user and have to manually find and delete them all on old PPHB forums. And it would be 20-30 people doing it.

SA had an amazing gaming presence too as we would mass infest servers of different games, EVE online was the shit. GOONSWARN baby! So many great moments its actually now internet history. And when we joined second life en masse.....LOL

We Goons at somethingAwful mostly Migrated to 4chan as something awful became infested with more early politically correct ban happy Mods in 2012-14 and lead to the exodus of the FYAD crowd. But 4 chan is too much FYAD, less blended so its not the same. its a distortion of what it once was. but we still have our fun

This is one of the only forums left with a balanced political spectrum and even handed mods tbh.

The old highlight videos back in the day. If I recall. Bas, Frank Shamrock, Wandy, Sakuraba and a few others were linked to the main site.

Fight Finder. I worked a summer job in 2006 where a colleague claimed to be a pro fighter. Sherdog helped me verify for myself that this guy was a compulsive liar. Shortly thereafter I found the forum and have been a member since August 2006 (this is my fourth account after the first three were banned).

A couple of reasons. I boxed back in the day (which led me to start watching MMA back at the start of the 90s). It got really hard in Canada in the late 90's to find UFC content (MMA in general) in any format. This is pre-internet content. I joined Sherdog to ask where I could find MMA to watch. Stuck around, to a few breaks to let the toxic children here get bored and move on.

have you read my award winning thread?

I think it was MMA but they used to have hardcore porn at Sherdog. This would be 2001. It was a shitty forum at the time. I mostly hung out at Stileproject's forums instead. It was a lot like what Sherdog used to be like here before it got all stormfront. Stileproject had so many fun and cool people and an mma thread.

True story: 2003 I went to the store to buy some random Kung Fu Instructional (i practiced as a kid) just to smoke some weed and have fun, and end up boughting what was playing on the screen vhs UFC HITS I and II.

Fell in love instantly.
Went to a cyber coffe to find out more about the styles of Remco Pardoel and Gary Goodrige, end up lurking about that nasty pit fighter Tank Abbot and thats how i got here.

I can't remember exactly, but I started lurking around the time BJ upset Hughes or possibly back when BJ beat Gomi. I started lurking more when BJ loss to GSP and then finally decided to create an account after Hughes beat BJ in their second fight. I was a huge MMA fan at the time. I went to watch that fight too in Anaheim and even met GSP at a Chili's (or Applebee's) parking lot the night before the fight. He was with Zahabi who looked annoyed we stopped them to snap a few pics. Back then I spent 90% of my time in the Heavies forum. Did the Mayberry even exist at the time? I started posting more on sherdog when I discovered the Mayberry though.

Lately I haven't been on sherdog often. Big reason is because my phone keeps giving me an error every time I try to get on at work and I rather not go on sherdog on my work computer. Not sure if the work wifi has anything to do with it. Plus I'm so busy when I'm not at work I simply don't have much downtime and when I do sherdog doesn't pop into my head to checkout. I also haven't been keeping up with MMA nearly as much as I would like or even care for.

The fighter finder stats, maybe circa 2000. I don't recollect the specifics.

I didn't know the site had a forum and randomly stumbled into it many years later. I'm not sure I even knew what a forum was back then.

So, yeah. Just looking for cold, hard, data.

I spent a couple years lurking and too nervous to post anything. I was active on the Underground, but I didn't care for the UI as much. So, I made the switch.
