What books are you reading?

I've been reading HEAT 2 and it's actually pretty good. I'm about 1/3 of the way through. But I got the itch for The Shining again ever since getting my Taschen set so I decided to take a little break from HEAT 2 and jump over to The Shining. It's been probably 15 years since I last read it. I'm nearly 100 pages in and really enjoying it (again). I remember liking it a lot the first time too. Once I finish it I'll go back to HEAT 2. Then I'm trying to decide if I should read Doctor Sleep after that (as it makes since to read it after The Shining) or if I should take a break and read IT first. I've never read IT before.

I'm about halfway through book 5 of the Sweet Pea series. The Bad Seeds by C.J. Skuse. The main character is a lady kinda like Dexter but with less morals.

Dudes, I have recently got into chick lit, spicy monster romances and faeries boning.

Morning Glory Milking Farm and the sequel A Blue Ribbon Romance.

Lol.

A Story of Yesterday was pretty great. it is a very short novella (<20k words/70 pages) but manages to tell a very intriguing story with such in such a short time.

only downfall is the english translation is absolute dog shit.

altered carbon audiobook was pretty good. i remember watching the series and really liking the first half of the first season, whereas I enjoyed the book all the way through.

Here’s a few I’m reading:

Life by Keith Richards. Rambling stories from the riff meister.
God’s Promises for Every Day by Thomas Nelson. Indexed to look up what to do if you’re feeling anxious, bored, angry, jealous etc.
Batman Year One by Frank Miller. Classic graphic novel.
Reggae Roots by Kevin O’Brian Chang & Wayne Chen. Origins of reggae music told by Jamaicans.

What are you reading?

I read Scott Gs new book. It’s cuckD! It’s not shocking he’s had abysmal divorces. Panders too much to women.

not king best work either. Shit is not scary at all but does have some violence.
Definitely not scary but a favourite of mine. I thought James Franco did great in the tv series. I love anything time travel. The book portrays hell is paved with good intentions. 🤷

Just read the Vang trilogy. Is about alien parasites that take over human. Pulp Sci fi. It's actual what the Flood from the Halo games is heavily based on.

And just read Daniel Silva's The Other Girl. Part of spy series that follows an Israeli spy. This is like book 17 and they're all good so far. This one had a lot to do with Kim Philby, who was the most famous spy in history. There's a non fiction book called A Spy Among Friends that I absolutely recommend. If you're into spook shit, Philby stuff is about as good as it gets.

so you ever have a friend and you really respect their opinion on stuff like, movies and TV shows and bands and especially fantasy books?

I had one. He put me on a lot of really great stuff with just a few minor near misses.

but he kept yammering on about this book he loved, and how I had to read it, and that was his favorite book, but every time I looked at it I thought, yeah not for me.

so he went ahead and bought it and surprised me with a copy of it as a gift, right when I was out of things to read and about to get on a flight for a vacation.

This book was so bad that at first I thought he did this as a goof, and I kept trying to push through it thinking, it has to get better and it just fucking didn't.

So I checked with him, bro we're you fucking with me? Nope!

You truly love this book? YUP one of if not my all time favorites!

Dude you're kidding, right? Nope I love it and I wouldn't have paid for it if I didn't think you would too

This book was so bad it made me honestly rethink if I should stay friends with him.

I tapped out about 200 pages in, I rarely tap on a book but this one caught me deep in a flying inverted triangle gogoplata of loathing, after it rocked me with shitty writing and a convoluted plot, and I was blacking out from pulpy prose and weirdly misogynistic erotic undertones.

and this is the book-

Trust me do not read it, don't look at it if you see it at your library, just fucking avoid it like the plague.

I will honestly never trust another review or recommendation as long as I know him.

Lucky the hotel had one of those leave a book take a book thingies and I found this

It was a fun easy snarky D&D related read. I have done two books now and the conceit and tone are starting to wear out, but holy shit it saved the rest of my vacation and my flight home for sure.

and I left that fucking shitty plague book there to infect someone else. If you ever see a copy of it, stained by sad rabbit tears, down in the islands, run like hell away from it.

Interesting that you hated Heroes Die so much lol. It's very well loved in fantasy circles.
