What books are you reading?

Mr Mercedes, this, and end of watch are some of kings best recent stuff by far

this is the first book out of the series I have read. Is there an order to them?

also read the Institute and 11/22/63. Both ok. 11/22/63 was hard to get though but worth it in the end for me.

Mr Mercedes, finders keepers, end of watch. That's the order they were released. They all have Bill Hodges. I wish king had just done Mr Mercedes, then end of watch and squish some of finders keepers in that. And then most of finders keepers as a stand alone . Make sure to read Mr Mercedes before end of watch.

And they made this all into a tv series and the first season was really really good. If I remember right it sticks to the book pretty closely. Brady in the show was as creepy maybe more than the book version which is saying something.

One of my favorite authors. All of his works are challenging, but very rewarding.

I'm guessing adapting Book of the New Sun is the big "do they have the balls?" question in media at the moment, its one of the best regarded unadapt genre books but would be highly challenging to do so.

I do think there is something inherently literary about Wolfe's work that would potentially be lost putting it on screen, even moreso The Fifth Head of Cerberus which would I spose be easier in terms of lenght.

I like it, but it's pretty strange and unique

I finished CS Lewis “The Abolition of Man” and have now started the CS Lewis fiction novels known as “The Space Trilogy” which is based on the philosophy of The Abolition of Man.
The Space Trilogy is good, the last book was the least interesting, but the first two were great.

Reading "Dream of the Red Chamber" at the moment. Not liking it nearly as well as Journey to the West. The translation I'm reading isn't as inviting at the translation of Journey that I read, and there is a large cast of characters that for me makes it difficult to keep track of who everyone is and how they relate to each other.

I just finished the Phil Mickelson book by Alan Shipnuck.

Next up is this one:

Now onto the book “Signs” David Jeremiah..

I’m on my 30th novel of the year, which is pretty crazy for me. I haven’t read much for pleasure in many years. This week I’m reading The Institute by Stephen King.

Didn't know about an attempt to adapt his work. And I also agree that much would be lost in the translation to film. I feel that "literary" is almost an understatement. I re-read Wolfe every now and again and find new experiences everytime. I hope someone gives it a go though.

Been reading old favorites and going through the Culture books again. On my favorite, though it’s only the second of the series.upload_2022-7-1_20-9-24.jpeg

Alongside “Lord of Light” by Zelazny and “The Remains of the Day” by Ishiguro

just bought this last night because it sounded interesting. Looking forward to starting it
Did you get around to it??? Looked it up on Goodreads just now, and immediately put it on my TBR.

How are you enjoying it? Maybe it is the translation, but the writing is sooo dry… Even for Science Fiction.
I have a quarter of the book left. I will probably finish it tonight at work if it stays slow. So far I am enjoying it, the writing is dry and lots of numbers and theories. I ordered the next 2 in the series yesterday. I plan on reading at least those ones.

The book has lots of theories that are intriguing. It reminds me of Sphere by Michel Crichton in a way, but more in depth. Plus it has some religious stuff and ideas on alien contact. If you like sci fi it is worth a checkout.
