what are your thoughts on rener gracie?

as a figther/bjj instructor?

has anybody here trained with him?

He's way bigger in person and 100% solid. I think he gets a sense of satisfaction out of people doing well with thanks to his instruction. I took one of his seminars. Would not fight him. He said some things which makes me think his enjoyment of winning grappling matches goes beyond proving the art or the satisfaction of a job well done. Doubly, would not fight him after pissing him off.

I don't agree with hardly anyone about how they go about teaching beginners. I think if you go past the beginner stage with his instruction you will kick ass.

he trys too had to be funny but other than that

I've never trained with him, but if I got the opportunity to I certainly would. He definitely has giant balls for competing against Andre Galvao and Josh Barnett and doing quite well while barely competing at all and teaching for most of his time. He is also very passionate about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Excuse me, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

However, I always remember Hillary Williams' post about Rener when he's mentioned: "Everytime I hear Rener talk I feel like I'm going to walk away having purchased a Ford Focus at full sticker price." Rener's constant sale of GJJ can get very annoying and he is hypocritical at times.

Can't stand his marketing. Can't stand the cultism.

That being said...he seems to be extremely skilled and someone who I'd love to learn from one day. He seems like he has a natural ability to teach. And seems like he'd be a competitor, did he not have certain body problems that I hear about.

dont you have a youtube channel now that i think of it

link please?

In my life I feel as though I've had the opportunity to learn from some truly great teachers, and while watching Gracie Breakdown videos doesn't compare to actually training under him, I do get the impression that Rener is an excellent coach from the way he breaks down techniques and concepts. His enthusiasm for the art is truly infectious, and I would definitely be interested in training at his academy some day, although I would prefer to roll with Ryron if I had a choice.

Rener's marketing skills are, of course, elite.
he tapped before josh had the toehold locked.
He's talking about Rener, not Ryron.

Did one episode of a podcast with a bud before he got deported, he's still doing it but I'm not. So, I don't really have a youtube channel. Just a single video of me on the webs.

Back on topic. Rener also seems to have amazing body control. With a guy like him, think it's more natural balance or something he's worked on?

His crossface feels like a ton of broccoli.

Fuck, wrong Gracie. I did it too.

He's a great coach, very knowledgeable, and he's extraordinarily passionate to his art. To be fair, I think he's one of the most passionate jiu jitsu instructors I've met - quite possibly because thats what he grew up knowing and what his entire lifestyle is constructed around.

Never met him in person, but from what I've seen through his videos, he seems like a great BJJ instructor with a real passion for teaching.

His love for GJJ is a bit over the top, but it is understandable given who he is.

I would love to train with him one day.

I thought it was funny, him cornering Ryron in Portuguese so loud. Like Barnett would give a shit what the corner was saying. May as well have been Swahili.

Met him at a Starbucks by the academy one day so I can't speak to his teaching but he was a nice dude and is a good size fella as well. He always seems small on the videos.

makes me laugh most of the time and shake my heads other times, he seems to know how over the top he is at times and has fun with it, seems to be a bit tongue in cheek. I interviewed him and he was cool, though idiot camera person didnt hit record and I only got audio on separate recorder. When the GJJ is too thick, or putting down of other styles I have a problem, or exaggerating size wt diff.

Renergy Sandwitch makes me feel a bit icky when I hear it.

That was Ryron, not Rener.

A good friend of mine just got his purple from Rener. He said rolling with him is pretty amazing and equally tough. Technical, phenomenal pressure, and very fluid. I enjoy watching both Rener and Ryron.
