The Outer Worlds 2

I've only played through the opening zone, but if things continue down the path they've presented, this could be something special. Right off the bat, combat is so much better. Just the feel of it is an a vast improvement. The original felt a bit floaty and just kind of there as a mild resistance. In this game, the enemies are FAR more smart, and the FPS mechanics are on point. It actually feels like Bioshock in a lot of ways, where they hit that perfect balance of RPG and FPS, although this one feels more refined.

The dialogue so far is blowing me away. Plenty of class specific options, but what impressed me is that side characters will react to what you say to other characters, and will offer their thoughts on what you just said to somebody else. It just feels so much more organic than most games of this type. It has a bit of a "telltale" system, where it will alert you to key dialogue options with "They will remember this", and they absolutely do. If this dynamic system continues, the game already has my seal of approval.

They've also expanded the skills and perks, where you can feel that the game would play quite differently depending on your build. The graphics are not amazing, but a very appropriate and noticeable upgrade. It looks similar, but made improvements in all the right areas. It just looks very crisp overall.

That all said, the original was great for the first little bit, and then just fell off. So I'm cautiously optimistic, but not entirely sold that they haven't just front loaded the game with all these new tricks that may fall to the waste side as the game goes on. So far so good, though. This one feels like a sequel to a good, but heavily flawed game, done right.

I had played Balatro on my Xbox through Game Pass, but I bought it on my Switch and started over. I just had my best run ever, with a 10 million chip hand, and I'm still working on getting everything unlocked.

Poll is already pretty interesting to me. I thought BotW would run house. Never played it but I remember the high talk from everyone as if a kind of breath of fresh air for the franchise. I do, though, recall weapon durability specifically not sitting well with players.

Releasing both Tales of Xillia remastered and Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remastered on the same day was a dick move, but at least I got stuff to do for awhile

I'm curious about the Dragon Quest remakes. Did you play the one for DQ3?

I'm not some huge Zelda guy so my opinion doesn't mean much but I didn't like BOTW as a Zelda game. It was fun to explore the world but that's it. They ruined the great dungeons zelda was known for in place of small little puzzle rooms scattered throughout the world. The boss fights were laughable at best when Zelda was always known for good boss fights.

It did inspire a bunch of game devs who went on to make really great games though so I guess in that respect I do appreciate what it did for the industry.

I did, the remake is quality, but I actually did not care for the game itself that much. DQ1 is much better, and DQ2 sounds it as well.

The story in 3 is basically just non existent, and I don't like that the team is just generic npcs with jobs.

I've heard the story for 1 and 2 is pretty much a non-factor as well but I haven't played them. I decided not to get any of the DQ games because of that. I love JRPGs but I need a story to keep me going.

I am a few hours into 1 and it has more story than the entirety of 3. But yeah, its still pretty thin. The best part of 1 is you are the only party member, so they give you all kinds of shit.

The difficulty spikes are annoying though.

Black Myth Wukong

I'm completely stuck on the final boss. I really haven't struggled too much up until him but my god, I dont even know what to do. I've watched every strategy on Youtube and nothing helps. This game was like a 7/10 before this asshole now i'd say it's like a 5/10.

Edit: Finally beat him. Just needed to equip a certain item.

Might pick up Borderlands 4. A friend wants me to to play co-op. I never really cared for the Borderlands games though despite digging the art style.

About 60 percent done with story progression on borderlands 4. Still going for 100 percent so I got another 40 hours to go lol

Also playing AC Shadows dlc now. Not much different in gameplay. But the story arc continuation is cool. And they added the bo staff.

You know, there's like a butt-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bo staff.

It's the only game that I play on my phone. It's just perfect for mobile and touch.

Lol sounds like TBT

I got it on my Switch so I could do touch screen or on the TV. I wanted the mobile version, but I had heard that it drains the battery like a mofo. Have you had any issues with it?

I haven't had any issues but my phone has pretty good battery life anyway. It's about 2 years old and I still don't charge it everyday

That said, any time your screen is on you are going to drain more battery. Games keep the screen on.

Well, I finally finished Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

I started it a while ago after finishing Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. But I found the lasso really dumb, and think it was just too much since Infinite Wealth took 100 hours.

I restarted The Man Who Erased His Name, and i must say, I LOVED this game.

The gimmick gadgets actually get real fun when you upgrade them enough. It was amazing how I was so much preferirng Yakuza style, but then with the upgrades Agent Style was great too!

Pros:
+ Much punchier and more respectful of the players time. I got all achievement in a little over 30 hours I think. Not completely overloaded with side stuff to do and they toned down somewhat the time and difficulty of things like pocket racer
+ Technically great - never crashed once, excellent graphics
+ The Coliseum is super fun, team building is awesome
+ Akama is a real cool character, and the central hub of side missions good too. Incorporates the main side games well and makes them more rewarding
+ The ending -- holy shit does it ever hit hard! Loved loved the ending
+ Nice to have real time combat back! Nice variety of moves, enemies don't feel cheap, aren't spongie

Cons:
- Outside of the ending, the story is forgettable and skippable
- Some of the Akama point building missions are lame -- wearing certain clothes
- Change of scenery would have been welcome, but understandable for the story why it was Dotenbori again though the Castle is BEAUTIFUL
By the way, totally stupidly hilarious how people don't "recognize" Kiryu because his big disguise is..... WEARING GLASSES.

<puhlease>

Overall: 9.4 / 10 . I loved this game.

Voted Link to the Past. So many memories. The soundtrack is spectacular.

So I finished DK Bananza this weekend- best game I have played this year so far. I felt like a kid again playing as DK, just smashing stuff, climbing everything, banging my chest, etc. It's a LOT of fun. They did a great job giving each layer its own personality. The final sequence is incredible...

Now I am alternating between Ninja Gaiden Ragebound and Shinobi. LIkeing Shinobi a bit more atm but I'm not too deep into either of them yet, so we'll see.

I did pick up Ghost of Yotei, but haven't unwrapped it yet- saving that for when it's really cold here and I won't be going out much. I haven't been here for a while cuz I didn't really play any games over the summer.

The Outer Worlds 2

Think I'm past the threshold now at 25 hours, and can safely say that this game is very good, if not excellent. A vast improvement on the original, but still lacking a certain something. That "something" might be as simple as a bit more visual delight in combat, like Fallout has. The quests are really good and multi-tiered, with plenty of options in how to approach them, and plenty of impactful decisions to make. Combat is good, and there is a really well done stealth element within them, if you want to tackle it that way. Crafting is good. Modding weapons and armor is good. Skills and perks are good. Choices and consequences are good. Main story is good and keeps you engaged. The world and key environments feel more open and full of things to discover. You have factions now as well...

Judging it through the "Obsidian" lens, this is easily their best game since "New Vegas". Of this type of game, anyways(their CRPG's are always solid). They really listened to the feedback, and I'd put this at the top of the recent WRPG mountain from the past while. Really no big complaints at all, other than something I can't quite place my finger on, that makes it a little less emergent than others. I might just be getting old, though.

Oh' and if you're a bit wary, because some clickbaiters online are calling it "woke", don't be. It's just a silly world of extremes, that you can play any side you want to in. You can side with the capitalists or the socialists, and the game pokes fun at both ideologies, and presents some really good moral dilemmas that questions both sides. There is rarely a "right" choice to be made. You can also just be a complete maniac and kill everyone. It's all wide open, and the game doesn't push you down any path that presents one side as the "good" people. It's all good fun.

I think this one is headed for many "under appreciated" lists in the future.
