What are Derrick Lewis strenghts?

His wit and fight IQ shouldn't be underestimated imo.

He's tricked a few guys into believing he couldn't come back in a fight he was losing then knocked them out and it's worked for him at least a few times.

He did it to Shamil, Tybura, and Volkov. I don't know if that trick is going to work anymore though.

At the same time though, he has a notoriously bad back but thinks that throwing largely ineffective flying kicks is always a good idea

Super strong, deceptive, knock out power, size. Grappling wise, he is better defensively than what people give him credit for. Lewis is a hard target to gauge and predict, at times he looks done, at time he looks hurt, at times he looks completely exhausted....then this massive quick haymaker comes out of nowhere and catches you off guard.

He stays in his wheelhouse even under pressure and fatigue. Sometimes looks funny, but he maintains good composure.

Willpower, knock out power and sheer dumb luck on his part. Also he's fighting in the one of the weakest eras

His opposition is largely weak

Bingo.

It should be obvious to everyone that top athletes of heavyweight size are not going to MMA.
The reigning UFC champ is not even a full time athlete, what does that tell you.

Shane Carwin's disclosed purse for fighting Brock Lesnar was $30,000. It's a joke.

It has been this way for a long time. As long as UFC continues to pay peanut crumbs, good big men will go elsewhere.

The average pay for a NFL linebacker is $2 million.

Saying he’s ok on Instagram after posting a pic or video someone dying or becoming seriously hurt.

His biggest strengths I feel are his ability to remain dangerous throughout the whole fight and his bizarre ability to simply not care that he has highly skilled guys in dominant positions on him threatening with submissions and just stand up. He has that "I don't give a damn" defense that has worked almost flawlessly for him. I have watched Ivanov fight since Bellator and he is very competent on the ground. He had a deep ass Americana on Lewis and Lewis straight up didn't give a shit and just stood up without using much proper technique. The only guy to really big brother him on the ground was DC.

Glad you mentioned that and noticed. Thats one of the things I really appreciate and respect about Lewis as well. We have seen him time and time again get taken down or put in some uncomfortable positions and his brute power especially early in fights has helped him get out rather easily. Atleast it looks easy to the eye. We can all appreciate the power in his hands and lastly I think we have to give credit where credit is due. The dude is constantly looking better due to his mma training. We can see new wrinkles in his skill set grow with every fight. Lewis is for real, we cant deny his will and his athletic ability.

Is is obvious he wins often but can you define his strenghts during the fight?

Only i have is that he has a bigger chance to win by tko/ko during the third round, like his win over Alexander Volkov.

His strenght seems to be his weapon as well, the power of his hands.

Maybe also his way to fight offensive.

His weakness seems to be everything such as takedown defense and sub-defense.

His strength is his ..STRENTH

He is strong and strong willed ..and can power out of anything so far..

Thanks mate I think we're on the same page -- he has just the right blend of strength, flexibility, and stamina it seems. There have been many strong folks in MMA. Either they tend to gas and wilt early or they simply have too much bulk and not enough dexterity to wiggle out of subs. He seemingly has the right mix to be very effective.

I am still amazed that he was able to stand up from the bottom of side control against DC before he gassed.
Dude for real -- anyone that has trained BJJ or wrestling knows how hard it is to improve your position much less get up when someone with a strong anchor has you in side control -- it's worse than mount in many cases in my opinion.

He’s black and he’s a beast

His strengths look like weaknesses. That's what makes him weird.

He lacks technique, but it's a strength, because more technical guys get comfortable piecing him up and boom - goodnight.

Physically very strong.

He has weird cardio. I don't know if his cardio is awful or brilliant. What I do know is it better than it should be for man of his size/build/skills. And he retains killer shot power until the very last second f a fight, and has some of THE best killer instinct in MMA. Regardless of how tired he is, once he hurts you, he finds enough in the tank to finish you in seconds. Brute of a bloke.

He is embodiment of "Jujitsu is bullshit, like just stand up". The worst part is that he doesn't get subbed while doing it. Never puts his neck in danger, doesn't give up his back, just stands the hell up.

This, man.

He has that x-factor shit going for him. Dude doesnt even work on grappling in the gym. Grappling is one of the hardest aspects of combat where if you dont know any techniques you get steam rolled. This dude can just “get up” LoL.

He breaks laws of jiu-jitsu, and there are many others that do too.
