What’s going on with UFC? Even the next few PPV main events are weak.

It's a problem everywhere. Pay more and get less in all sports and all events. My son wanted to go to the Taylor Swift concert around here. The tickets were astronomical but I told him if his grades were good enough, I'd get the tickets for him (they aren't). His best friend's mother got two tickets and she's going with her boyfriend. The family is very wealthy but I'm sure the mom can't tell the difference between Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey. It's why I don't like MMA/UFC becoming mainstream. Then we get these rich bozos buying tickets and raising the prices for everybody. You should see the price I'm paying to go next month. It's crazy but I like to watch the events live when they come here.
yea for sure. resellers are destroying the ability for the average person to get to live events. worse yet, the affluent ass that ends up filling the seat often isn't as loyal a fan, doesn't really care about the outcome.

Who cares, it's not like anyone here even buys PPVs anyways, but you complain about fights you will illegally stream and create threads about fighter pay whilst taking money out of fighters pockets.
probably not far off the truth. since that price hike I can't even blame people for streaming. After the ppv and taxes in Canada its damn near $100 for 5 fights in 3 hours and has no value once its over.

curious to know whats going on with some of the bigger names.. they dont fight as often and i wonder if thats due to behind the scenes issues with money. I saw someone mention before how the UFC literally can't afford to pay some of these guys

Yeah, let's watch Barcelona-Real Madrid for the 100th time this season, that's fucking great...

Just shut the fuck up, I'm sick and tired of people complaining about weak cards and at the same time complaining about rematches, in example.

Real madrid v Barcelona doesn't cost 89 bucks which our friends across the pond are expected to pay. Also for football fans like myself, el clasico is an amazing fixture and much better than watching a man called nunes fight

The half second of spring isn’t the best quality that’s for sure. Only the matchmakers can be blamed, if you take a look at the divisions, most top 15 contenders don’t have any fights lined up right now.

3.) UFC 290: Moreno vs. Pantoja. Absolute garbage for a main event. 125 + a challenger no one has ever heard of (just checked; he has 48k followers on IG lol.) Are we really supposed to think this is worth $80 lol?
This is the first I am hearing of Pantoja getting a title shot, next champ for sure.

We all know the Apex fight night cards have gotten terrible lately (next one being the exception with Pav/Blaydes as a killer main event).

But we’ve got some shitty ppvs coming up.

1.) The next PPV main event is Aljo vs. Cejudo. Cejudo hasn’t fought in 3 years and is 36. Not a terrible main event, but weak considering the card has no other big fights. Looks like an Apex card with a low level PPV main event.

2.) UFC 289: Peña vs. Nunes: this is steaming garbage and whoever is responsible should be in Guantanamo Bay.

3.) UFC 290: Moreno vs. Pantoja. Absolute garbage for a main event. 125 + a challenger no one has ever heard of (just checked; he has 48k followers on IG lol.) Are we really supposed to think this is worth $80 lol?

4.) The “big” fight that is being held to headline some huge event is Jones vs. Stipe. This fight does have name value but it a totally uncompetitive matchup featuring a washed old man who got KTFO’d and sat out 2+ years before inexplicably being given a title fight.

This is just getting sad. I get that the UFC is a corporation and tries to cut corners and save money and all that. But it’s getting to the point where they don’t even give a shit about their PPVs these days. So many with either nobodies who we don’t care about or just totally uncompetitive squash matches. They will bring washed legends who haven’t fought in ages and throw them straight in title fights to get destroyed. We end up with like 75% of the PPVs having no “big fight feel”.

This is why monopolies are bad.

Lol..

Just ..lol.

I bet you these all do remarkably well , sales wise both in tickets and ppv...

The biggest problem they've got right now IMO with regards to the strength of the cards is Rank Squatters.

While guys won't fight the contenders around them, and only each other for the end of career gold pen fights, they never face anyone but each other.

Some big names have sat out the last year or so. That drastically effects the relevance of the fights the lower ranked guys are having and starves the fans of said "big names" because sitting around "waiting for their title shot".

It's been a slow burn. But as it stands, it looks like we'll have to wait for these fights to transpire before we see "new stars" coming through.

It's a mess

Endeavour just managed to purchase a large portion of the UFC and with Dana boasts about record setting gates at every event I can't see how that'd be true.

This disrespect for Brandon Moreno in this post is DISGUSTING

lol because Dana isn't a known liar?

i didn't say that... I just said there has been plenty of talk of success and while i'm not saying you're wrong, your comment is the first i'd ever heard of a possible financial issue.
One thing i do know is that Dana is contractually obligated to offer a predetermined number of fights per year for the term of fighters deal. The fighter has the option to accept that fight or pass on the offer. This means your favourite fighter that has been on the shelf for longer than a year has opted out of an offered fight at some point.
Also, we're all aware that losing fights in succession devalues the athlete so it would make a lot of sense that a notable athlete hoping to land the payday of a lifetime is choosy about who they fight and to minimize the risk of losing position. Long story short, fighters are waaaay more particular about their opponents at the top of the divisions and all that results is less movement and less interesting fights so its not so easy to just point at Dana as the reason the divisions are frozen.

Yeah they're pretty poop but I'm gonna take it as an opportunity to spend some Saturday nights doing other things

Pantoja buries Moreno. Great fight.

On topic, it's become a watered down product due to the volume model they've gone with ESPN. The great fights are still there, we're just not getting 3-5 a PPV now. You're typically 1-2 now. They're spread out over more events.
