I can see both perspectives. He's annoyed that dwarves would be relegated to some weird cave dwellers, but he's in a very privileged position to make such a claim, as if every dwarf is gonna be considered for generic/non-dwarf roles like he is. I don't know if he's protecting his spot or just plain delusional. He should also recognize that his most famous role required him to be a dwarf, regardless of how celebrated it is and how many doors it opened for him. He still needed to "fit" into that role...
