Absolutely. Usman is his worst stylistic matchup and has the highest TDD. He took him down in all 3 rounds. He almost had him out in the first.
Gilbert already showed he’s beatable, this proved it even more
Oh man. There has never been a fighter who isn’t beatable. He chose to fight a war against burns.
Name any fighter who has ever lived and you can say the same thing.
Which champiomntoday is unbeatable ? Or any ever?
He didn't gas out in the Gilbert fight though. Why would it have been 5? The original Khamzat-Costa fight wasn’t 5 rounds, there was no title on the line and Usman was short notice.
As to the thread question—no, I wasn’t particularly impressed. Khamzat has terrible holes in his striking and his cardio is kind of suspect. These flaws show up any time he fights elite competition.
.
True. This is the best version of Chimaev there is. No excuses can be made.Yeah, and this fight was at 185 and Khamzat had a full camp to prepare and went to the fight location early to acclimate. I know the excuse was always "he's too big for 170 and is reallly a MW" but what is it now? Does he have the cardio to win a tough 5-round war against a top MW? It's hard to be confident of that after today.
Floyd Mayweather
People voting ‘No’ are likely obese and haven’t trained martial arts in their lives.
I went back and looked, and you are right about Khamzat’s output in the Gilbert fight. Geez, it sure seemed like he got sloppy in a hurry in that fight. Same today with Usman. He didn't gas out in the Gilbert fight though.
Chimaev had the biggest output in round 3.
I agree about his striking. He's not defensively responsible and doesn't have many tools.
What he needs the most though, is new coaches and team around him.
His wrestling is some of the best I've ever seen but the striking needs some work to do.
Chimaev has legitimate power and an iron chin as that Gilbert fight showed.I went back and looked, and you are right about Khamzat’s output in the Gilbert fight. Geez, it sure seemed like he got sloppy in a hurry in that fight. Same today with Usman.
I think he also suffers from being hot-shotted up the rankings. Prospects need time to develop and rankings exist for a reason.Chimaev has legitimate power and an iron chin as that Gilbert fight showed.
He also has the height and reach advantage over a lot of MW's.
Again, if he wants to reach his full potential, he will need a new team.
I was really impressed with how he ragdolled Usman.
If he can do that to someone like Usman, he can do it to pretty much anyone.
I'm impressed that he can outgrapple Usman, you can say 2 weeks notice all you like but that's an impressive feat, nobody has ever done that.
But if he can't keep someone down I worry for him on the feet, he's very hittable and seems to gas easily. If he's in a 4th round against a Strickland or a DDP... not sure it goes well for him
