I'm impressed that he can outgrapple Usman, you can say 2 weeks notice all you like but that's an impressive feat, nobody has ever done that.
But if he can't keep someone down I worry for him on the feet, he's very hittable and seems to gas easily. If he's in a 4th round against a Strickland or a DDP... not sure it goes well for him

Usman is old and has alot of mileage. Outgrappling him at this stage in his career is not as impressive as it once was, especially not on 10 days notice.

Leon did outgrapple Usman in R1 of their first fight.

EDIT: second fight

He’s in trouble in the 5 round fights. Scariest fighter in the world in the first round but if you can survive that you’ve got a chance against him. 4th & 5th round he’s going to be depleted that’s my main worry for him.

Same thing we have seen. Monster for the 1st. Just hangs on and survives after that.

i don’t think he’s fought any scheduled 5 round fights yet, which much be unique for such a big and popular fighter. We all know why.

I was impressed by usman, he did better then i expected, but my expectations for khamzat were quite unrealistic. Khamzat did very good though.

Yes and no.

Watching that first round I was convinced no one would stop him. If he could do that to Usman, he could do that to anyone. I was convinced we were looking at the next middleweight champion.

Then round 2 started and it was clear that Khamzat was gassing. My opinion suddenly changed again. Khamzat does not have the cardio for 3 rounds, never mind 5. I think that fight was a draw, he did not deserve that win.

Khamzat looks like an unbeatable monster for round 1, but if guys can survive that first round, he's very beatable. He's been very lucky that his fights have all been 3 round fights, because I'm not convinced he'd have gotten the win vs Burns or Usman if there had been another 2 rounds. Him fighting in championship fights will be very telling. If Strickland survives the first round or 2, I think he beats Khamzat up pretty badly.

What’s impressive is being undefeated and beating highly ranked opposition. But yes, he’s definitely not perfect.

Well said.

I voted No, but the 1st round was impressive and what most expected. The following two rounds were pedestrian until that last 15 seconds.

So while it was impressive, I was thinking he'd be able to finish Usman, but I think finishing Usman is significantly easier said than done.

Not really. It's a win...just not terribly impressive, tbh.

Khamzat is a monster for a round...then all bets are off. That might be expected of a big HW, but is not a good sign in lower divisions, IMHO. Khamzat still has a lot of work to do and in no way deserves a MW title shot right now.

What he did in the grappling department against Usman was pretty crazy. His cardio is an Achilles heel but I feel like he can outgrapple anyone at MW not named Bo and probably get the finish before it really becomes an issue. Its not exactly a high level grappling division.

Just like he was never gonna out strike Israel?
Strickland is a striker, he cant wrestle khamzat lol. This is the same strictland btw that said he made him tap multiple times in sparring and was better than everyone.

They just said he broke his wrist early in the fight.

So, yes, I'm impressed.
