They already both had a full camp for it.

Call him up like hey Stipe, we appreciate what you've done for the sport, the year you've waited, the fact that you already trained for a full camp and signed this contract to fight Jones, but we're gonna go with this new contender who just got a big win instead.

The ufc doesn't do shit like that bro. Stipe and Jones was a fight they planned for, signed contracts for, promoted for months, they were invested in that fight and it's what was going to happen.

They don't just suddenly unravel those plans because a new contender shows up.

Pretty impressive how everyone that's about to fight Jon is gonna beat the brakes off him, but turn out to either be too old or never that good in the first place come fight night.

He didn't need to stand with him though. I think he could've continued to wrestle, but just chose to beat him on the feet.

If he fought Tom, it could very well be a more wrestling and grappling dominant strategy.

He did look more slow and plodding. But, he's also one of the best defensive fighters of all time, even if hes lost a step in speed and reflexes, it's still very much difficult to hit him clean.

Tom has never fought a good kicker. Historically, boxing heavy styles have always had trouble with guys who can control the kicking range. It makes it difficult to actually find your range and land clean.

So, there's a lot of questions about how Tom strategizes against him.

We don't even know if he has takedown defense.. and he's facing one of the takedown artists in that divisions history.. lol
 
Stipe looked a tad past his prime but a big reason he looked so slow is Jon attacked him with hard front kicks to the body right from the start. great fight iq

The age gap between jones and stipe is pretty much the difference between him and Aspinall .


Jones looked amazing, mixed it up. Stipe looked extremely slow

Exactly.
'Tough' just means you can absorb more punishment than most. Never thought Stipe would be soft, and he still has power.

The problem is age has a big factor with quickness and reaction time.
And the power may have been there, but if he's not landing shots with power behind them its a mute point.
