Realize this is old news to many but just heard about it.

Apparently, legendary NFL bustout Ryan Leaf is now in a Montana State prison, serving what appears to be the remainder of a 7 year sentence. Weird, to think about the year he was drafted and the big discussion we had about whether he was better than Peyton Manning.

After busting out of the NFL due to 'maturity issues' (in spite of having physical tools that were insane), he started spiraling into drugs. Apparently got himself clean and found peace in life as a mens golf coach at a junior college, before falling off the wagon and buglarizing someones house for drugs.

He was sent to a drug treatment facility, but busted out of there too and was recently remanded to the mens state prison in Montana to serve the rest of his time.

The crushing weight of human exceptioanlism claims another unprepared victim.

Old news, Laughing Joke in SD and will be for a long time.

The Chicango Bears will give him a tryout as soon as he busts out of there.

Yeah, I think he's rated as the #1 draft bust.

Lived in Minnesota for a while. Herschel Walker is still discussed in similar tones.

I read an interview with former agent Josh Luchs and it gave a lot of insight into Ryan Leaf right as he was on the verge of his short NFL career. I know Josh Luchs isn't highly regarded by many and it's just his take on it, but a lot of what he says mirrors what everyone saw of Leaf in San Diego: believing in his own hype, sense of entitlement and so on. Nobody ever told him anything that he didn't want to hear I suppose. It's sad and I truly hope he gets it together...it seemed like it finally hit the point where he wanted to get caught/was crying out for help.

I do not be-leaf it.

I don't care what people say. I start feeling sorry for these guys after while. Damn.

I do too.
I hope he does his time, gets his head on right, emerges from the other end and finds peace however he can.

Still, though, I have a feeling he remains a bit 'disoriented' as far as comprehending his place in the world. He said this at sentencing.

"Five to ten years of Ryan-free drama for this community -- particularly for this nation -- would be pure bliss," he said.

Pretty clearly drastically overestimates his relevance to 'the nation'. Guy doesn't understand he's become an odd sidebar forgotten fifteen minutes later, rather than the center of the show that people actually give a shit about. Pretty sad in a Norma Desmond sort of way.

He'll still get a try out before Vince Young. Bastards.

I remember when San Diego first picked him up (I lived there at the time). Man, was that guy hated within a very short time period. All because of stupid stuff he did too.
