Weidman never proved he's better than Silva.

Silva had nothing for Weidman, he was losing every second of that fight before the stoppages.

I’m not a Silva fan, although I acknowledge that he’s an icon and one of the most entertaining fighters of all-time.

Weidman’s legacy will be the answer to a trivia question.

“Which fighter ended Anderson Silva’s historic run?”
“He’s an icon and one of the most entertaining fighter of ALL time,” but you’re not a fan?! What does that say about your legacy?
Dude, Weidman KO’d and snapped Silva in two. As a die hard Silva fan, I will never forget those facts. I also won’t forget the Chris’ spinning wheel kick that ended his own reign; though that is for a different thread.

The only success Silva had was in the first fight with leg kicks. Weidman made the adjustment in the 2nd, to say the least.
The kicks and his antics were the only thing keeping Weidman off of him. He had a real problem early stopping Weidman's forward movement.

Weidman is a cursed fighter. If I wasn't so lazy I'd make a thread about it. The Weidman curse

And whose fault was that for Silva’s showboating and not taking it seriously?

Probably the UFC's. They kept feeding him guys who couldn't strike and just wanted to grapple for so many fights in a row that he got so bored and complacent with it.

I mean, look at his opponents leading up to Weidman.

Leites who didn't want to strike and just do BJJ.

Forrest who he was so far beyond in striking that it wasn't worth his time.

Maia, who again, he was so far beyond on the feet. Maia couldn't get him down so Silva just got bored on the feet. He was so bored he almost lost a couple rounds in that.

Sonnen who just wanted to grapple.

Vitor might have been fun for him, but Vitor went down with the first kick.

Yushin looked terrified to engage and got KOd in the first.

Chael, who wanted to wrestle again but was easy the second time around.

Bonnar lol.

Then he finally fought The Chris, who seemed to want to wrestle again at first. Even after that, Chris was starting to look tired and it seemed like just another typical boring fight for Silva.

Then BAM! Chris threw 4 punches in a row and got him. It'd been like 8 fights and 4 years since anyone had thrown that much at Silva in a single combo. I'm not surprised it got him. Dude probably forgot what it was like.

Also nobody prefight was saying Silva was past his prime. He looked the exact same as he always did. Lackluster TDD, dancing around like a moron, throwing naked leg kicks, etc. All three finally bit him in the ass in the Weidman fights.
not true at all. you definitely didnt follow mma closely back then. the forums had a lot of people saying that he was past his prime after the leites and cote and maia fights.. and then silva telling an interviewer that he didnt want to be champion anymore because he wanted to spend more time with his family (heart wasn't in it anymore). I remember a lot of talk about him being past his prime.

He literally proved it twice, both times in as devastating a fashion as possible.

It's not like he was beating Weidman before the KOs.

I remember the first round of the first fight being Weidman's, and the second round being relatively uneventful in terms of effective offense before the KO, with maybe one missed TD by Weidman (so what, one missed TD?).

The second fight was to my memory a more extreme mirroring of the first fight (clear, strong R1 to Weidman and not much going on until the R2 KO leg break).

Anderson was getting dominated in the second fight. The only thing Anderson had in the first fight was those inside leg kicks and Weidman completely neutralized those in the second fight and was checking them so cleanly that Anderson broke his leg.

Who are all these top Middleweights the UFC should’ve signed instead?

my dudes 10 years since the first fight is in nine days

Yeah people thought he was so past his prime he was still a -300 favorite. And he was so sick and tired of fighting that he’s still doing it 10 years later lmao. The only people who claim he was past his prime are butthurt Silva fanboys in an attempt to excuse the losses.

Silva was past his prime in their first fight.
Silva lost the first fight due to showboating and not taking the fight seriously.
Silva lost the second fight due to a freak leg kick.

These three factors make Weidman's wins against Silva dubious at best.
I still contend that a focused, prime Silva circa 2010 destroys Weidman.

I suspect that you may be correct about Anderson beating Tim in his prime, but still, the showboating was part of Anderson's style and strategy so you can't factor it out. Also, before the leg break, Wideman was hurting Silva and seemed dominant at every moment.

I didn't say they weren't top MWs, bruz.

The Chris was the first dude in like 8 fights who either didn't want to just grapple him, or was either too scared or not good enough on the feet to strike with him.

Chris was not like the rest. Dude came to fight, and even after they were back on the feet and Silva was starting to take over and Chris was starting to look a bit tired on the feet, he still didn't give up. Just came forward, threw without being scared, and wiped Silva out.

What a moment.

Finally, after 10 years, someone creates a thread about this....what took so long is the question...

I know, I know !
Procrastination.

Plus, it was Silva's procrastination that left his head exposed to Chris's KO punch.

Ok, look, let's get this straight, once and for all.

- He LOST the first TWO fights. You can argue circumstance, etc, but he lost BOTH of them.
- He LOST the 3rd fight, too, no matter how well he did before the KO
- fourth fight: He won clearly, so he's 1-3.

But at 1-3 you can't claim he's the better fighter.

Oh wait who were we talking about?
