All these guys look like monsters. Young, fast, explosive, huge, power. And not one of them is allowed to fight in the UFC because they weigh 300 - 375 lbs. And not one of them is just an out-of-shape fatass.

You can't tell me some of these guys wouldn't make great fighters. The 265 lb weight cap is stupid and bans too many good athletes from considering MMA. It also limits the potential of guys who are around the limit and have to cut down.

We never got to see Brock or Bigfoot at their full potential. Both guys could have been athletic at 300 lbs and were forced to lose 30-50 lbs of quality fighting weight.

Francis Ngannou would look small next to these guys.

Poor them. They’ll have to settle for making tens of millions per year, super stars, and working 6-9 months per year

Edit: it actually is a great point you make. I just can’t sympathize with them

These 300lb+ guys don't have the cardio for more than explosive 30 second bursts.

Bradley Chubb the highest ranked and rated defensive or offensive lineman or even arguably player in the draft 'only' weighed in at 269lbs... only 4lbs over the cap

but yes i support removing the cap but strength hurts speed kills

The vast majority will be none of those except maybe working even less months per year.

Even the washouts usually have better career options than cagefighting lol.

I don't think we are losing much because of that weight cap but yeah i agree, it should be removed, heavyweight should be the ultimate weight class, no limits.

Think of NGannou's gas tank and then divide that by 10.

A couple punches and those NFL dudes are out of it. If you think they'll be in 'fighting shape' and still weigh 300 pounds, think again.

Pittance paydays and the Reebok exploit program do considerably more to bar A level athletes than the 265 cap.

Also losing all bargaining power and being subject to the cretinous whims of Dana White.

These guys are not brainiacs but this doesn't even require a brain.

Coaching high school football and teaching gym, or just using their college degree. I think over the mid-term both would pay better than the average UFC career. Also no brain damage in those. Not to mention, your odds of even making the UFC are probably low.

That's true, but the weight cap on heavyweight is still stupid. If a guy can be fit enough to make it to the UFC at 290, he should be allowed to fight at 290.

Would that represent the majority of wash outs or a small small small minority? Truth is, there isnt much of a career for wash outs in most sports. They either live in their past glory or move on to something else if not a steady but modest living staying in the game.

That’s why the failed lifelong football player stereotype exists. Because in many(not all) cases its true. There wasn’t much options in that field if you can’t make the show.
