Was Thomas Almeida the Worst Prospect Call in the History of the UFC?

Brandon Vera was going to be hw and lhw champ.

Uriah Hall was hyped up as guy to win mw belt

Hector Lombard was the best hype job to fail actually winning but also achieving no where near what people thought he would

I'm inclined to say Erick Silva. He took the UFC by storm 10 years ago by finishing his first two opponents in less than a minute, but has been inconsistent since. Then again he's still a young 37 years old and we should give him time to develop
This.
I remember that Erik Silva was meant to be Rory Macdonald's 'young' rival in years to come.

But again, he's still young, so give him some more time.

Nedkov was a hyped disappointment. More recently Mirsad Bektic was extremely hyped only to fall off hard.

There's no close second. Here's the men's and women's answer:

There are too many and " prospect call" can grow to an even broader group.

listen -in a sport like this , this becomes the nature of the beast cause really dont know until the time comes.

I mean guys like Koch ( who looked good for awhile) & Thatch are in a category of many when it comes to " prospects". I dont know if those are the best examples...that's just off the top of my head which there are many.

.... and Sage was making 75/75 so they were banking on him being the goods.....
Oh well.

He s one of the reasons wme/Dana business models is now a more " take it or leave it "policy .....and has been for awhile now.

Doo Ho Choi, Korean Superboy

Pretty big hype before arriving in the UFC, then went on a three fight first round KO streak before hitting a 3 fight losing skid. Hasn't fought since the end of 2019

At least Almeida gave us this amazing flying knee..

Will Brooks was a pretty bad shit show when he came to the UFC.

But prospect wise, Brandon Thatch is up there.

Johnny Walker is looking pretty bad right now. I remember people here saying he'd beat Jon Jones.
Yeah.. Brooks was worse IMO because he was a champion and had a great career.

Walker was a funny hypetrain IMO.. we all saw him getting knocked out like 3 times in a fight.

Almeida was a exciting can crusher. I figured out his ceiling was pretty slow when he got badly hurt by Pickett.

There was another kid, Julio Cesar Moceguinho Neves. He was 29-0 and 2-0 in Bellator when he lost for the first time and got cut. Now he is 36-1 and is less active than he used to be... but his last 2 fights were against 4-2 an 2-1 opponents lol.

Chill, the man is like 17 years old, give him some time

What about that jacked black dude with the cigars and funny hat? I don’t think he even won a fight in the ufc

David Terrell, he would be ''UFC MW champ easily''..everyone on here told me, "no one can beat him" "he will be GOAT"

Loads of new fans from Covid lockdown so no one will probably have a clue what I'm talking about, but the ones who do will know!

O'Malley fans probably think he still is
I do, sort of. Not that he’s a juggernaut. But he’s seems to be a really good striker. Just a little…frail, for lack of a better word. It doesn’t particularly help his case that BW is an absolute shark tank right now, though.

i could wiki this guy but just from memory the guy was super hyped and I honestly dont remember him winning one fight

Anyone else take the cake?
I was hyped about this guy, to be honest. Such a fun style to watch, like the old Chute Boxe days.

He did rack up a few wins early in his UFC tenure, with the most notorious one being against Brad Pickett in an absolute, back-and-forth barnburner of a fight.

But yeah, then he fought Cody and got KO'd, but Cody was at the top of his game at that time, and racked up a bunch of vicious KOs en route to winning the title. Almeida won another fight after that, but then rarely fought, losing two in a row. And then he had a hiatus and did not compete for almost 3 years, and came back as a shell of his former self.
