Was Ryan Couture Thrown to the Wolves?

So what?

Couture probably isn't even top 50. It was a clear mismatch.

You don't know what a mismatch is. Pearson knocked him out in the 2nd after losing the first. Couture was given the right level of competition. Pearson may of been on a small streak but he wasn't far removed getting beat out of the FW division.
And lol at Couture not being top 50, I shouldn't even bother responding you don't know what you are talking about

Like dude said, if this was Ryan Sampson, would anyone give a fuck? Nope. And if I remember correctly, Sherdog gave Couture the first round against Ross. I'm not saying that Sherdog is the end all-be all, but for people to act like Ross just walked through this dude has got to be kidding themselves.

Too many of you got caught up in the Dana-Randy "beef" to even give this kid a chance and guess what, just like in other sports, legends' offspring will start popping up in MMA.

Couture is barely Top 50 and with this loss, he could have slipped.

KJ Noons is ranked 65 at 155 by Fight Magazine and Couture barely edged him. Before that, he split with #72 ranked Joe Duarte. Having close splits with two guys ranked under the Top 50 kind of indicates where you should be ranked.

So, maybe its you who doesn't know shit about rankings.

He won the 1st round. I say no wolves were in the cage with him. Just the real deal.

Pearson did look bad at 145, but that probably isn't because he didn't the skill. Not everyone does better when they drop down in weight.

Couture won that first round, but it's not like he dominated Pearson. He won in a defensive manner by keeping Pearson at bay and clinching up against the cage. The truth set in in round two.

If I weren't at work, I could name 50 fighters at lightweight better than Ryan Couture. There might be 50 better in the UFC. Keep laughing.

why the fuck are people talking about Pearson being a big puncher?

he has half decent boxing but can barely break an egg against decent competition and has looked way short of top 10 material

he is a decent fighter and has very good technique, but a 'big' puncher....GTFO

I'm not even sure there's that many lws in the UFC, I'm not gonna bother looking it up on my phone. Nothing you said makes Couture vs Pearson a mismatch. A dominant finish doesn't equal a mismatch. Keep trying. Pearson was the right level of competition for Couture's debut.

I can name 30 off the top of my head.

How about guys like Melvin Guillard, Yves Edwards, Sam Stout, Jamie Varner, Joe Lauzon, Mac Danzig, etc. who aren't even Top 20, yet are better than Couture?

He was definitely thrown to the wolves.

Other than a cut win over Diaz, Noons had done nothing. On the other hand Ross is a success UFC LW fighter who has fought and beaten many good contenders.

He did. Couture ran and held the entire first round and did zero damage, he didn't even try to do any damage. You can technically score it for him but to act like he won the first convincingly or won it by beating Pearson in any realistic fashion is crazy. Once Pearson got his distance right he took Couture apart easily.

I don't see how Pearson is a step up from Noons

agreed i guess next time maybe the judges wont give someone who doesn't deserve a decision a win and then the competitor wont have to fight a much superior opponent than them. he got just what he had coming and it made me more than happy.

Lol, you are taking into account what happened in the fight, when on paper this was a large mismatch.

The who should Couture have debuted against that was available?

In no particular order:

1. Ben Henderson
2. Gilbert Melendez
3. Nate Diaz
4. Donald Cerrone
5. Joe Lauzon
6. Edson Barboza
7. Ross Pearson
8. Danny Castillo
9. Michael Chiesa
10. Mac Danzig
11. Melvin Guillard
12. Jim Miller
13. Pat Healy
14. Rafael dos Anjos
15. Evan Dunham
16. Yves Edwards
17. Tony Ferguson
18. Mark Bocek
19. Gray Maynard
20. T.J. Grant
21. Takanori Gomi
22. Diego Sanchez
23. Bobby Green
24. Myles Jury
25. Michael Johnson
26. Reza Madadi
27. Rustam Khabilov
28. Jorge Masvidal
29. Tim Means
30. Ramsey Nijem
31. K.J. Noons
32. Khabib Nurmagomedov
33. George Sotiropoulos
34. Josh Thomson
35. Gleison Tibau
36. Jamie Varner
37. Matt Wiman
38. Paul Sass
39. Jacob Volkmann
40. Michael Chandler
41. Dave Jansen
42. David Rickels
43. Shinya Aoki
44. Eddie Alvarez
45. Rick Hawn
46. Marcin Held
47. Patricky Pitbull
48. Tiger Sarnavskiy
49. Ricardo Tirloni
50. Brent Weedman

Waaaaay too easy. Got 50 almost exclusively off just UFC and Bellator. Couture might not even be top 75. And, yes, I used K.J. Noons. He won that fight.

Because Ryan Couture had split decision "wins" over KJ "Ranked 65" Noons and Joe "Ranked 72" Duarte.

Meanwhile, Pearson beat the shit out of G-Sot, who was a Top 50 guy at the time. He also has a win over Dennis Siver, who is Top 10 in his division.

Ryan should have been fighting Caros Fodor or another guy from Strikeforce.

Also, there are way more than 50 LW's in the UFC, you just don't know how to do research because you're mental facilities are unkempt and sub-standard. A quick check of their website shows me 76 fighters at lightweight.

According to their website, there's 76. And I even just used part of my lunch break to make you a top 50 list. Enjoy.
