Was Pride the most overrated organisation ever?

A lot of guys came to the UFC from Pride and were completely destroyed. Wanderlei, Cro Cop and many more. Fedor has a bad record fighting in the US. Unless you prove yourself in the UFC you never know who is legit. You can't take an organisation seriously where the referee wears an earpiece. Chael summed it up perfectly

Shogun had shot knees when he came over and still won the strap. People noticed Fedor declining right around the Arlovski fight (don't forget all his sambo matches in between which add more wear and tear). Liddell had more success in the UFC than pride. I'm sure the cage versus the ring factored in for some fighters, but mostly it was wear and tear by the time they got to the UFC IMO.

Anderson Silva, Rampage Jackson, Dan Henderson, Shogun, Werdum, Overeem all had a lot of success stateside
Brings me back to another point, most of them were on steroids. I mean half of these guys have tested positive. So an organisation where most guys use steroids and the referees wears an earpiece

Fedors win streak wasn't as impressive as its made out to be. Half of them were Japanese no names

I think the rule differences affected a lot of the Pride guys when they competed in the US. Pride had a ring as opposed to a cage, which is a huge difference. Instead of 3 or 5, five minute rounds, it had 1, 10 minute round and then 2, five minute rounds. The scoring was not round based, but overall. Soccer kicks and stomps to grounded opponents were allowed; elbows were not. You get a yellow card for stalling or not engaging, which could lead to reduction in purse and possible disqualification. There was no lay and pray or wall and stall in Pride. That's something I wish the UFC would implement.

Pride was and always will be the best organisation that MMA ever had.

Talent wise, the sport was only ten years old or so when pride was doing events. The talent in Pride at that time was better than in it was in the UFC, especially at LHW and HW.

They also had a lot of the best talent that came over from the UFC, eg. Barnett, Dan Henderson.. the list goes on and on.

Pride put on spectacle events, where the UFC marketed itself in a trashy fashion, kind of like porn or something..

You can say the same for Khabib's first half of his career. Most fighters fight nobody's starting out. But yes, he did have some bad competition at times, but also beat a lot of damn good fighters, and dominantly at that.

Chuck Liddell got DESTROYED in Pride in his prime.

Khabib is also slightly overrated but he is legit. But he is yet to fight an MMA wrestler in the UFC
