Was Holly Holms overrated?

Ronda is her best win and I think that fight was a fluke IMO. Holm would’ve got ragdolled and subbed in a rematch. She’s overrated af

I dont know how people really rate her, so I dont know if I would call her overrated...but I would def look at her career as dissapointing. After beating Ronda, the most exciting thing about her career is watching her get bashed up by better fighters. She didnt live up to her potential.

I used to go nuts watching her fight. Time, and time again, I thought she was too passive. But that’s her style. She’s looking to counter. Her wrestling definitely improved during her career.

But, at least she stepped up, and signed to fight Kayla. Holly never ducked anybody. Ronda, Amanda, GDR, and Cyborg to name a few. There are probably zero UFC BW demanding to fight Kayla, right now. She’s huge. My big concern was if she could make weight.

Now that she’s done it, and looked great inside the octagon.. She’s a HUGE threat to everybody in that division. It will probably take an elite striker (preferably with power), that can keep the fight on the feet to beat her.

But I see zero of them on the roster right now.

Holly was a 16 time world boxing champ. A UFC champ, after finishing Ronda. And a LOT of people thought she beat GDR for the inaugural UFC FW title.

She’s been out of her prime for many years. She’s 42, and we all just saw what happened to 40 year old GDR, and 42 year old Holly.

Age gets them all.
Only one who has a chance imo is Aldana if she can hit Kayla before she gets taken down. She has sharp striking and a surprising amount of power.

Yes. I've been saying it siince her first ufc fight which she was gifted. And, if Im not mistaking, her second fight as well. I forgot who they were against but I clearly remeber her getting away with wins she didn't earn.

She's a shell of what she was. There's another thread about the 35 plus age. She's 42, hasn't been in her prime for many years.

Does Harrison ragdoll a prime Holm in the clinch? I don't know that she does.
She moved liked she was 42 too. I haven't watched her in a loooong time. The difference was huge for me. She reminded me of Tony (not to that degree).

she was only brought in so kayla can make a name for herself. thats all it was folks. holly is not overrated. she was a champ.

Dude Kayla is basically She-Hulk Prime Holly would do better but it ends same. Other thsn prime Cyborg an Amanda I don't know anyone else in wmma that can stand a chance. Issue is now there's noone for her to really fight unless Amanda unrepresented.

Is there even a male Bw as jacked or strong as her (likely not many)? Not saying she beats any male BW she likely doesn't but on pure strength?

You are aware she lost the last PFL tournament right? She's also fighting in a very weak division. Let's see her against someone who isn't 42.

Prime versions of Ronda, Zingano and Tate would have been fun matchups but the division sucks now. The good fighters got old and the new talent hasnt come in. I wouldn't be surprised if she wins the title, look at who the champion is. If Nunes comes back I think she causes massive problems for Kayla

Well, she is 42 as many others have pointed out, which answers the Ultimate Question of Life. That being said, yes, she was always over-rated. Not her heart nor her athleticism, but rather her technical ability.

I am aware of how many titles she won in boxing, but you should look at the record of some of the people she fought. I believe she "won a title" from someone who was 1 and 2. Total record, not a typo. Women's boxing does not have a talent pool, or even a puddle. It can barely fill a fallen contact lens.

Her stance is bad, way too much weight on her front foot as she leans forward. This not only makes her chin more accessible but limits the power on her left straight. She either has to lean or rock back to have any real power in what should be her power punch but I believe her only knockdown in the UFC with her hands was Shevchenko who in addition to being considerably smaller was caught standing right in front of Holm throwing an inside leg kick. Once she stopped throwing that. it never happened again. Her stance also limits her footwork.

In the past she moved rapidly from side to side but that was all. No ring cutting, and forward and back she was stuck on train tracks. This also affected her timing as her distance control was bad. She would start punching from kicking range essentially wasting her jab as she came straight in.

Her stance also affected her side kick which just plain missed. A lot, and rarely landed with anything resembling power as her hips were often too square and this slowed her kick down as well. Plus when she missed she often left it out there and wound up hopping on one leg. Amanda timed this perfectly and came right over the top with a kick of her own and planted Holly on the back of her lap.

Holly is strong, has enough cardio to do 48 hours worth of work in 24 and does not back down from challenges. This is too bad as her technical ability has never come up to match any of these other abilities.

Shes not overrated, her style is just very ineffective against big and strong opponents.

Holly had learned MMA in a way that beats Ronda style and it worked. Her deficiencies are clear against opponents with different styles.

Not sure why the "s" at the end of her name bothers me so much.

It's like Im being trolled, but i dont even care about holly.

She is in a real odd point in her career. Dana wants her to retire but she is in the top 5 due to the fact that the division is trash. I think Dana is right in this case. Even if she somehow was able to string a few wins together by the time she got a title shot and the backlog is cleared she would be 44, and there's no one who sees Holly becoming the oldest female champion in UFC history.
