Or was he the right fighter at the right time at the right place to pull off a great run in a promotion ripe with steroid use ?

:) Meh, a daily Fedor thread.
For me, he was a great fighter of a given period of time, given conditions, given sport development level of that time, given circumstances after all...
))
Can't just mechanically bring it to nowadays, so useless to compare.
Would Napoleon Bonaparte be a great commander under WW II circumstances?
We never know...

In a land of wrestlers Fedor's windmill swings and drive seemed unstoppable. No one knew how to handle him. I thought he was unstoppable, but as times changed people were no longer taken back by his onslought and learned how to stand toe to toe with him, now he is legend and still a tough nut all MMA fighters should learn to overcome.

Kill yourself TS.

No one will remember you.

Fedor will forever be the GOAT in MMA and willl forever be remembered as the GOAT.

You act like steroid use was some kind of a benefit to Fedor.

It's a tough call. On one hand you have great fights and wins like Crocop, Nogueira, Sylvia and Arlovski.

But on the other hand: When you do your research, you'll find out that Fedor beat a bunch of middle- and light-heavyweights between 2000 - 2007.

this must be one the guys that was on that Lebanese beach taking pictures of a turtle

2004 Fedor was the best fighter this sport has ever seen. Crisp technical striking (he became a wild brawler in 2010), absolute moster with judo tds and submissions. Also had a great chin and never showed fatigue.

Fighters tend to age TS

Making claims on someone's career based on a fight when Fedor is a mere shell of himself is foolish. Who he was and who he fought during his prime definitely puts him as one of the greatest HW and possibly one of the greatest fighters of all time.

He is definitely on the decline, and I for one would not like to see him go to the UFC during his decline.

Even today's heavyweights can't hold hold onto the HW belt for more than 2 fights. The GOAT Fedor held onto his for years against the best HW's of that time. The man is 40 and still has the heart of a champion and could become UFC HW Champion if he would just go and train at a top American fight camp.

michael jordan was the right guy at the right time in the right team at the right sports league

Watch his fights and decide, that simple. One of the fastest fighters ever in MMA among other things.
