Was comeback Foreman a scam?

Maybe but Mike, especially at his peak, would've been favored to beat him.
the men of george's generation wanted George to win and thought he could do it if it came off. the young guys like I was then just laughed at George all the way up to the big win. George laughed with us, ate cheeseburgers and looked as harmless as he could possibly look. The boxing trainers weren't fooled, George Benton told Holyfield, "if he hits you, you'll be the deadest SOB in the graveyard". to this day, Evander claims George hit him so hard he couldn't feel his mouth and asked if all his teeth were there.

Think it was Harold who said “foreman called to say the right hand is coming and moorer was dumber enough to be standing there”

Something along those lines.

IDK How you define legit.

It was entertaining as a kid.

My dad was a big fan of 60s/70s era boxing, so he got a kick out of seeing Foreman fighting at an advanced age.

His KO of Cooney is one of my all time favorites.

The wild thing about Tyson’s peak is that at least according to some Tyson fanboys is that it only lasted for 6 months.
Peaks last longer than that. He hit his much earlier than most fighters do. Foreman came back in 87 which is when Mike was a unified WBA & WBC champion and peaking. By the end of the year he was undisputed king.

A scam at any age can't go 12 rounds with 28 year old prime Evander Holyfield let alone at 42.

I think Foreman is slightly overrated because of Ali but I would not take anything away from what he did after 40. What he did after 40 is all time crazy.

A lot of people think that Michael Moorer took a dive, but I don't know anything beyond that. It does look a bit fishy to my amateur eyes.
why the fuck would you wait that long to take a dive?

I think cooney landed a good punch or two of his own before he got kayoed, George did take some risks even though people say all he fought were tomato cans.

He’d wilt when he realized he couldn’t KO him early and Foreman’s size would wear him down.
I dunno, tyson fought a pretty rough 12 rounder vs ruddock the second time and he didn't show those signs. On another night? sure.

They were entertaining fights, too.

He blew away the cans, and had some slugfests with more competent guys.

I always like revisiting his fights against Dwight Muhammad Qawi and Alex Stewart.

there ya go, Qawi was a great fighter, way too short to pose a real threat but the guy Evander still says gave him his toughest fight, he's no can. Alex Stewart really was a good fighter too, just not elite. Like I say, I think a lot of his fights were at least with ranked contenders which aren't usually a tomato can.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the chin on this guy:

One of those guys who disproved the concept that you start to lose your chin as you age. He was still laughing off Shannon Briggs's punches at nearly 50.
Holyfield
Briggs
Morrison
Moorer
Cooper

Those guys could hit hard. And during his comeback, he was never knocked down

You can say its one of the top 10 sports moments in history.
Name another sport where a guy wins a championship 20 years after his last one. And in their mid-40s.

ironic thing is, with all his gifts, he could have been a complete, dangerous fighter but with his temperament he was too wasteful of his energy and way too tense when he was young. both times he lost, it was his stamina, and that has been said to have been the result of his intensity and not relaxing, as an old man, he had all the relaxation, the knowledge and was still changing up his style, used a jab that he always had when he was younger but was too impatient to really make work, but. he just didn't have the ability to sustain an attack or to handle any sort of movement. Like I told the guy I spoke to two nights ago who claims to have been in george's corner and having sparred him, "you got troubles when Tommy Morrison can outbox you".

it's absolutely one of my most joyous moments, I jumped up off the couch and said "yeah!" and watched intently as George seemed to have a private moment between he and God on a public stage, he looked up towards the sky and at that moment, none of the con was there, just a sincere man who finally did what he claimed was the main objective, not the money (although we know anyone saying the money doesn't matter is full of it) to regain the Heavyweight Title Of The World.

I watched the Qawi fight today, now Qawi was a natural LHW but he was really trying to take George out and landed some bombs, had no effect. Honestly, like George Benton said, "a 165 pound man in shape can knock down a house" even a man that much smaller can hurt a larger man if he lands right.

Him playing possum and acting like he was going down, only to explode with punches at Big George, was a classic moment. Dude was just carrying way too much weight for his frame, he was about 5'6-5'7, but he did better than Frazier.

Foreman was also like 230 pounds for that fight, which he said was just too low for him at that age. Made him feel weak, and unable to push people around.
