Was Calvin Kattar ever good?

You forget that most on here were picking Kattar over Max. The consensus on Sherdog at the time was that Kattar was the better boxer. This was a tough fight. Zalal was on his bicycle the whole fight. It was more of a track meet than a fight.
What's crazy is that as much as he was dominated in that fight, he still landed 134 shots, some of which probably would have been fight changing against opponents with lesser durability than Max.

I might be Kattar’s biggest fan but this fight he did all the normal frustrating Kattar stuff - namely, he started slow and refused to do anything but box. He’s the epitome of a five round fighter who doesn’t often get going until the third round, so watching him fight a mover in a three rounder was always going to be frustrating for a fan of his.

So I don’t think he’s washed but I do think it’s possible that his flaws are causing him to become something of an IQ test for more versatile and mobile guys like Zalal since his path to victory is so narrow.

Yeah he was good. Just age and too tough a schedule lately.

At his best he was a solid top 5.
His patient style backfired big time against Max. He spent the first 1½ round making reads aiming to play the long game. By the time he was ready to open fire, Max had already landed too many shots and of course wasn't slowing down either. Still think he could have done better with a more urgent strategy.

He was good. Being tough doesn't get you as far as it used to in the ufc.the carneiro fight showed his ceiling early imo but he had some good wins before the max beating and blowing out his knee. He has had a career he should be proud of but im not sure if we won't be seeing him in bkfc by the end of 2025.

Max ended him after connecting on 10000 strikes cattar took nassive damage that fight

In general we are as good as our last day at "the office". I try to remember myself everyday. Kattar has been always a great professional and highly entertaining both in victory and defeat (imo).

He's a good MMA boxer but didnt really evolve beyond that.

i think that fight with holloway took his soul

No, he is a can because he lost

If he had won then he had a case for goat status

Serious question. I recall thinking he was good when he knocked out Jeremy Stephens, but since then he seems to have tremendously overrated striking and zero power.

Sure he was good, but that team in general have a horrible approach to defence.

Some of the worst defensive fighters have come out of New England Cartel.

Obviously Kattar looked fantastic when he put an utter beatdown on Giga Chikadze, but we've seen several guys come out of NEC and take some of the worst beatings in UFC history - including Kattar himself.

Kris Moutinho was training there when he got absolutely mauled in an endless one-way torrent of abuse by Sean O'Malley, Rob Font has had fights he would/should have won comfortably if he had any sort of defence, and that's off the top of my head for a team that isn't particularly big.

All attack, no defence will also see your fighters fall off an absolute cliff sooner rather than later.
