I knew his hands were fast and powerful. I knew he could dispatch lesser opponents in good time.

But that footwork. That head movement. That ability to play his poker slower than the tortoise... I was as impressed as I was surprised.

His recognition and reflexes when it came to transitions within the stand up game as well as from striking to wrestling... phenomenal.

And he showed all this against one of the two best strikers in that division.

Dude has come out of nowhere with these skills. Am I blind? Was this obvious to everyone else?

P.S. Seems like a good guy too. Quite the opposite of a 'neck-tat douche' whatever that is

Edit: HAPPY NEW YEAR SHERDOG!

When I saw him making Cruz miss while dancing and taunting him, I could feel the upset coming up

Kinda reminded me of when TJ demolished Barao

Yeah surprised me just how good he was and how well he handled Cruz after so many others utterly failing to

You making any resolutions?

Anyway, I was quite surprised. I hadn't seen him fight before (I generally have to go to a bar to see PPVs, and miss most free cards these days). I thought he was going to get schooled - but I quickly realized I misjudged this one when I saw how he had Cruz pegged from round one - and then when he regained himself after losing round 2.

I have jumped on the Cody bandwagon without question.

I was surprised how Cody played us all. He was playing "meathead" the whole pre207 media, then he suddenly went full intel mode and outplayed Cruz in his own game.

I was also surprised how Cruz didn't back down and went into Cody, knowing how dangerous he is, never complained about groin kick and then gave the best post-fight speech of a champion who lost, like ever.

We need more fights like Cody vs Dom, this is what MMA is all about.

Yea a lot of people were - but given that these people were so confident that Cruz would win - and that Cruz was mentally destroying him hahaha - it's hard for people to be real about it now as they were fools and so wrong

Cruz needs more of this

Yeah man:D

1. Expand my horticulture business.
2. Take a homeless person for a nice meal and find out their story.
3. Throw $1000 away on a Vegas roulette table

What about you mate?

About the fight though; the penny didn't drop for me until round 3. I was excited that it was such an even fight but m6 brain wouldn't allow me to believe Cruz was gonna lose haha. By round 4 I was more focused on just how skilled and dangerous Cody was.

Such a learning curve

Well said sir, agree with everything here.

Bards are laughing and singing everywhere haha

Good ideas. For me, too many to count, it seems - but then again, I made goals/outlined tasks - such as banking blog entries to be able to build a platform to finally self-publish my first book, drop some weight as two days ago made 3 years since my achilles rupture and random minor stuff disrupted gym time (been lifting, lately, though)... but I guess "resolutions" that I thought of but didn't map out were: complaining less at work/being more positive, being more on top of things/reducing procastination.

Cheers to striving towards new goals his year.

And ultimately, I was surprised in the first round because he seemed to really have a solid gameplan, but in the second, I thought maybe he'd cracked (in the beginning, it's not unusual for the underdog to be competitive, then break under the pressure, ime), so I would say ultimately, I was sold in the beginning of the third when I saw him get back to controlling things. It definitely made the Cruz/ TAM feud less onesided

It was a big surprise. Take nothing away from him, he showed us his talent.
I do agree with TJ and others who said Cruz looked injured and slower than usual, though.
Cody is for real.

It was obvious this dude was legit when Conor ducked him 2 years ago.

I was impressed as hell, he fought one hell of a fight.

Cheers mate. Have a good year.

And let's enjoy whatever the mma world brings us too:)

Not surprised at all , called it before the fight.

Sometimes that special fighter comes along and you just know they will be champ. Conor last time and now Cody I get the same feeling about .
I was a big fan before but after seeing him with that kid after the fight I will be a fan for life . Conor and Cody are my fav fighters and finally glad i have another fighter that I can get emotionally involved in his fights . Love the kid ..

I knew he's would have the speed, and had ridiculous power. I was impressed by his cardio, and he show great patience. He did exactly what he needed to do to win this fight. It was incredible to watch.

I got that feeling too. It's like he re-wrote the universe. I remember I had Barao in the top 3 p4p before the fight.

Well as someone who had Cody winning by decision on Sportsbook I wasn't surprised.

No, I'm lying, very surprised.
