Was anyone else surprised and amazed by Cody No Love?

I was convinced he would put on a good show, but I thought he would lose a decision due to Dom's point scoring style.

So yeah I was surprised at the outcome, it's funny but for all the talk of Dom's trash talking, I felt Dom was the one who fought emotionally.

When I saw him making Cruz miss while dancing and taunting him, I could feel the upset coming up

Kinda reminded me of when TJ demolished Barao
I can live with that..
TJ smashing barao was quite epic, made me a fan of TJ to be honest.
And the same here with cody, he did what he said he was going to do and with style to be fair.

and all the trash talking aside, was respectful in victory and of dom and vice versa.

respect has been earned..

Everything about his performance was impressive, but what really stood out to me was his composure.

It's not like he was pretending to be pissed going into the fight. He literally hated Cruz. Dominick had really gotten under his skin, but he was able to put that anger in a box and focus completely on the task at hand. That's champion level discipline to go with champion level skills.

It was a big surprise. Take nothing away from him, he showed us his talent.
I do agree with TJ and others who said Cruz looked injured and slower than usual, though.
Cody is for real.

Cruz looked exactly the same Cruz as before. Make no mistake about it!

Cody is fresh as hell while Cruz is a worn vet.

Everything changes after a brutal fight.

Nah, he still comes across as unintelligent and broey but I never had any doubt about his skills. Didn't think he would beat Cruz but also didn't think Cruz was out of his league either and Cody proved that.

I knew his hands were fast and powerful. I knew he could dispatch lesser opponents in good time.

But that footwork. That head movement. That ability to play his poker slower than the tortoise... I was as impressed as I was surprised.

His recognition and reflexes when it came to transitions within the stand up game as well as from striking to wrestling... phenomenal.

And he showed all this against one of the two best strikers in that division.

Dude has come out of nowhere with these skills. Am I blind? Was this obvious to everyone else?

P.S. Seems like a good guy too. Quite the opposite of a 'neck-tat douche' whatever that is

Edit: HAPPY NEW YEAR SHERDOG!

not gonna lie, his post fight interview with Joe made me cry. paraphrasing "if this kid can fight threw his illness, rounds 4-5 are nothing compared to what this kids been threw"

omg, i'm a big Cody fan now! Couldn't ask for anyone better to dethrone the arrogant champ.

Cruz looked like a fool out there. Constantly missing and falling down after shots and flailing with his awkward and at least aesthetically bad looking technique. Really impressed and surprised by Cody though. Him vs TJ will be crazy. TJ will be a harder fight for him.

Very surprised. Stayed composed and his gas tank held up. Those were my concerns as well as Cruz being a savvy vet and forcing Cody into a mistake. His power and athletic ability I knew was there. Huge win for him. I Think he does the same to ole TJ

Well as someone who had Cody winning by decision on Sportsbook I wasn't surprised.

No, I'm lying, very surprised.

Did you have him on decision or just joking?
I had him on TKO, and that fked up because of his clowning tempted to had done the straight pick due to Cruzz chin, and Cody´s potential ineffectivity to finish him.
I´m personally mostly suprised by all the people being suprised here. It was from the beginning most likely either TKO for Cody or Decision by cruz or very late stoppage. Cody was the dangerous fighter while Cruz wasn´t dangerous to Cody, this was at least my mindset for this fight and with such good odds, had to go with Cody, hard to go with Cruz going decision against an extremly fast striker and extremly dangerous and one with ferocious power, especially seeing how much he got tagged in the Faber, Dillashaw matches. Meaning he for sure would get hit by Cody. If you look at earlier fights Cody will sprint like a little Dinosaur rex forward with extreme power and hes good at cutting corners. Hard to see Cruz, even going backwards or side to side, not getting hit by that a couple times. And thats all it takes. For 3-1 on Cody, i´d definitley take that bet. However my concerns for the fight was:

- Cruz´ having a good chin
- Cody having no gastank (potentially) and losing rounds 3-4-5.
- Cody being over zealous as many young men are, and gassing himself out.

However I´ve never seen him as a meathead, or "douche" like some people said. It was the exact same with the almeida fight, people didnt like him, so they said almeida will win and beat him easy...only because they dislike the guy. Such people unfortunately can affect you when theres so many of them on youtube, sherdog, analysts and experts who are so biased with i.e Cruz in this fight. very annoying when trying to get non biased opinions.
My biggest concern for betting on Cody though was that, I could not see was how Cruz would act if he lost- if i cant see that its very hard to bet on it for some reason for me. Happy that it went as expected but goddamm that tko didnt come. If you had him on decision then why so, and how confident were you? The odds must have been crazy for that i didnt even check them.

and you missed the scrambles man, those insane scramblws

Here is the way I look at it. TAM have had how many camps designed specifically to beat Cruz? A lot. That team has more knowledge on Dom than freaking Alliance. I would say that they have had the recipe to beat him for a while. Just didn't have the fighter who could pull it off. Dom is a very intelligent fighter. He will make adjustments. I don't think a rematch would look the same.

On that same note, the guy has had a ton of injuries in his career. It is quite possible that Cody's youth, speed, hunger, and just flat out less miles on his body makes him the overall better fighter. IDK. I would like to see a rematch though.

No, thought Cruz would win and bet Cody by decision because of the odds 1000/100. On a bit of a roll Nunes by KO, Waterson by first round sub. Vcash makes you brave of course, if it was real money I'd be broke.

not surprised at all. Cody always had the best fundamental boxing at BW. I knew Dom's schtick would never succeed against a non midget fighter with solid boxing.

I'm with ya. I knew he was good...but not that good. He has spider reflexes.

It was a great performance for Cody, but he should ask Anderson Silva what happens when your clown around to much inside the octagon.

Yeah man, I'm more a fan of the story itself than the fighter, but that post fight interview was heart warming as fuck.

Cody seems like a TJ Dillashaw type... not very bright, very emotional but a good hearted warrior

Great post.

And great foresight too.

Very true on all levels.

It will be very interesting to watch Cruz in a rematch - the cerebral fighter that he is - and see what adjustments he makes.

Bantamweight has been very interesting since TJ overcame Barao. And with Cody being the new king, it just stays as must-see TV
