Warhammer 40k

First off, I liked this theory when I first read it on dakka or chainsword/bolter because it matches my thoughts that the Alphas are still loyal - their legio modus operandi is to act independently, with utter disregard for the individual (and individual glory), often with one hand seemingly at odds with the other (to outside observers) while still working for the benefit of the whole.

Would the Alphas seemingly split into factions (as everyone suspects), with a loyalist side fighting the traitors while fooling everyone else? Would the Alphas then manipulate outcomes of battles, wars and crusades so the Imperium came out the other side strategically ahead? That's actually what the Alpha Legion does. Precisely and exactly what they do. IMO, it's a foregone conclusion that the Alphas are loyalists.

That said, the rest of the stuff has a lot wrong with it.

First of all, GW is not that competent.

It's like all of these conspiracy theories about famous events that has the government involved in a grand coverup of epic scales. No. The government is not that competent. They always fuck something up. "Never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to incompetence." - Napolean. For all of the theory about the missing legions and the missing Primarchs and the supposed developmental secrecy of the three legions, GW would have to have engaged in a decades-long epic and cohesive and consistent storytelling (ala GRRM) where the fluff seeds planted 10-20 years ago are still yet to pay off?

What has GW ever done that makes you think that they're that competent? That would require patience, forethought and planning. Games Workshop. Think about that one for a few minutes. Let it sink in. After you're done chuckling and shaking your head, consider the following in universe reasons why it does't make any sense.

How were the legions numbered? I-XX.

Sanctioned Legions: II and XI. (We don't even know if they were sanctioned, along with their primarchs, except via one internal thought bubble by the Big Dog.

Supersecretsquirrel watchmen legions: VI, XVII and XX.

So if the legions were numbered before the primarchs were found, when they themselves were founded, then you don't think there would have ben any questions like, "Hey, we're mixing up batch #13 here. WTF happened to 6 and 12?"

Da Emprah, "Nah, forget about those. 6 and 12 are stupid numbers so I decided to skip them."
Malcador, "Oh, okay, derp derp."

I'm tired, I'll finish this post later.

to bolster this argument
while their were deeper machinations behind the wolves being sent to deal with magnus, there is a reason why the wolves were sent after magnus they are the emperors executioners and it is mentioned in several different books that the wolves either were or rumored to have been released in the sanctioning of the forgotten primarchs, and the attempted sanctioning of angron. They aren't the enforcers by being the meanest or scariest, that is the night lords the wolves serve a different function.
Yeah its hinted they are perfect executioners
Too backward and honour bound in many ways to be easily swayed by choas or rebellion(ie shaman over psykers)
The wolf genes stop infliltration (can smell out alphas) and mean rather than surrender to choas they usualy just wolf out
They are extremely vicious and loyal

The wolves, alpha legion and salamanders were all created together in secret and were kept apart from the other astartes. My belief is that they were created specifically to police the other legions once the crusade had ended. The alpha legion are covert ops types, the salamanders are protectors who are conscientious about civilians and like their Primarch, have the uncanny ability to rebound from severe losses. The Wolves are savage executioners who are completely obedient to the Emperor. I think they were intended to work together. If a legion was suspected of heresy or rebellion, the alpha legion would infiltrate and investigate. if Heresy was found, they would sabotage, then the salamanders would deploy to protect the local civilians and take the brunt of the fighting, while the wolves prepped to take out the rebel primarch.

oohhhh, thats a really good post

We've gotten a bunch of new rules leaks and I'm really liking how everything is shaping up. I think one of the best changes so far is how weapon types work:
-Assault: can advance (run) and shoot, but takes -1 if it does so
-Heavy: -1 to hit if moved
-Rapid Fire: double attacks if within half distance
-Pistol: can be fired even when engaged in combat
And, the other major change: no weapon prevents you from charging. Yes, that means the humble bolter + chainsword is actually a great combo now because you can rapid fire the bolter and still charge and the chainsword gives you an extra attack in close combat.

Any word on new Sisters of Battle/Imperial Guard?

Nothing new that I've heard. I don't think they've gotten a "faction focus" 8th ed article yet and I can't think of any rumors about any new stuff in the pipeline for them.

Are the Red Scorpions being introduced into 40k?

Blood angels about to loose BAAL ?
Red Scorpions are already 40k, they are one of the focus factions in FW's next (long delayed) Imperial Armor book.

As for Baal, it sounds like the planet has been secured but the ultimate fate of the hive fleet that had been attacking them is a mystery (heavily implied that Khorne saved them).

why would khorne do that? i thought khorne would be coming for them

the fuck? i didnt think the Scorps were that big of a deal. I guess their getting special treatment?

Sounds like GW is lining up Primaris Blood Angels. It'd be funny if Khorne stole Sanguinius' body.
