Belgium or French Trappist for beers

Teeling Single - Grain (still of the belief that Irish whiskey is still king)

The wife absolutely loves higher end vodka 's and for a while i have been trying to convince her that you can turn shit vodka to great vodka with a solid carbon filter process. Her loyalty to brands clouded her belief, so for the past 3 months i have been switching her Diamond 100 with low level swil that i ran through a filter.

The hardest part is to hide my smug smile when she sips in ignorance bliss.

Oh, never noticed this thread...

You're a Canuck if I can recall. Any recommendations for beers of a more Belgian bent on Canadian shelves? The excellent Unibroue has some incredible offerings, but I'm generally not finding much more than stuff like Leffe brune unless I'm hitting up specialty beer shops.

Canada is weird because liquor boards very province by province -- so trappist offerings can change completely from Ontario to Alberta. Unibroue is actually owned by and brewed at Sleemans so that is going to be available all over. If you like Le Fin Du Monde i would highly suggest Delirium Tenants

The closest thing i have seen to Leffe on the shelves is Orval or Villers -- both excellent options but both are a bit pricey -- at about $4 for 330ml bottle - 90 bucks for a case.

Kirkland brand by Costco is reputedly supplied by Grey Goose. It's believable. Damn good and a great price. Get that and save yourself some trouble. <cheer>

I'm canadian and thus part of the socialist racket that is the LCBO -- meaning only government owned entities can sell liquor and do it at an exorbitant cost. So, our costcos or grocery stores don't sell booze.

:(

It's about 50 dollars of a 26er of GG

We had a similar situation in my State. Liquor is sold by the state. Beer isn't allowed to be sold in grocery stores but they just passed it being allowed in gas stations. Anyways, I wouldn't say they rip us off with the prices. They just want the profit from the whole thing so they monopolize the vice.

Our beer is allowed to be sold at a "beer store" which is a joint venture owned by Molson and Labatts -- with a small ownership by sleemans (ironically none of those are canadian owned companies, anymore) so breweries have to deal with that distribution or via the government owned entities - Or from their own brewery location

But the government sets the minimum price legally allowed at any 3 of the options and tax the hell out them -- cheapest you can get a case of 24 for is 33 dollars. And that's for the bottom end swill

Sorry to hear that. I used to have a similar problem living in Pennsylvania. Fortunately the supermarket of liquor stores was 20 minutes away just on the other side of the Delaware border.

Yea, we have some rules on beer and the Beer stores but it's a little more lax depending on what you get. I think you can get a six pack easier but more than that has to be at one of those stores.

Yea. I'm no longer close to the border. Rum is still cheap and I usually have my drink at a bar anyway.

I have to drive to buffalo to obtain reasonably priced booze and then hope border customs doesn't check my truck

For the most part it works, odd time I get busted and have to pay a duty / tax

I also don't smoke but tempted to buy a pack just because it is so much cheaper

Ahhhhh borders. Fun stuff.

Delirium Tenants? Is that a typo, or is this a beer I’ve never tried? I’m familiar with the famous beer Delirium Tremens. I quite enjoy it, but I don’t *quite* buy the best beer in the world hype around it. I have found a place around here that sells Delirium Tremens though it’s a bit pricey.. I actually picked up a bottle of La Trappe Trappist Tripel for paper writing grease and I’m finding it pretty heavily oaked, but still tasty. Also, I like La Fin du Monde, but Don de Dieu is my favourite of their more amber beers, and La Trois Pistols my preferred of their dark (forgive my spelling errors – I’m American and don’t speak your crazy Canadian moon language). The yearly ones and that revolution one are good times as well. One of my favourite parts of living in this country is that you guys carry Unibroue beers in some of your bars.

(related note – if you’re ever in Brussels, look up a bar called “Delirium Café” – last I heard, it has the world record for most beers on premise, and it’s a very neat place for a Belgian beer lover. It’s actually where I first discovered Unibroue stuff, as they feature a big brewery sign for the Quebec brewery in the entryway)

Anyways, maybe I’ll see if I can get some Orval or Villers for tree decorating tomorrow…

Typo, sorry

Unibroue is great but Canadian owned (well, was..Sapporo aquired them in the Sleeman deal) and thus, you will see in some none chain bars.

Oh if you like Belgium strong ales like DED -- that opens up some options.

But start off with those 2 and see what you think

A big beef I had with LHW is they segregated the division for the short term gain. They only allowed Jones to really fight the old guard fighters and other prospects didn't get to until much later on. The result was Jones looking like a god, the old guard slowly disappearing/ getting far worse in skill, and the new talent having nothing to show on their resumes other than wins/loses against each other. They did eventually have them do it but far too late. Gus and Davis could've been bigger. Luckily DC and Johnson eventually came to the division but still.

Pretty interesting matchup of LHW prospects at 206 (not on the main card).

Never saw those two before but it looks like they've racked up some wins beforehand so it's on me.

Undercard has me excited cause that Lando guy who fought Ferguson is on it. He put on a war last fight.

War Room Scrooges,

We battle it out a lot in the Sherdog WR cage, but Christmas is upon us once again. It's that time of year to put up that tree if you haven't, hang the mistletoe, and break out the ugly Christmas sweater, get a present for someone special in your life and just do a kind deed for a stranger or someone in need. And none of that is the same without listening to your favorite Christmas songs.

So guys, what are your favorite songs to get you in the Christmas spirit?

i think its this one i remember it differently on the radio though

Carol of the bells: trans-siberian orchestra (rock mix)
