His chin is totally cracked at this point, and he's just not fast enough to be ultra-elusive anymore.

Yeah, I was saying for years that with his style the second he lost a step he was going to start getting KTFOed. I just wasn't ready for it.

It was like that for me with Cro Cop. He was such a great counter striker, and so fucking fast. Once he got slow with age and injuries, he was fucked. I certainly wasn't ready for it though. I still feel robbed that I didn't get to see him kick Randy's head off.

That would have been great, a fight with Big Tim would have been fun as well. I think the Gonzaga loss is still the most shocking thing to happen in the sport, but that's mostly because I don't care about GSP that much.

On the bright side, I was in the arena when Machida kicked Randy's teeth out.

What's with the Randy hate?
Always sad to see when the old dog's had his day though. Both Machida and Maia.

Randy has the reputation of being a bit of a douche when the cameras aren't on, and that was even before Dana White's various tirades against him. And of course there are the PED suspicions.

At his age, and for the eras he competed in, I'd be shocked if he wasn't on them.
I guess I don't give much thought to fighters outside of how they perform in the cage and perhaps how they come across in interviews (although I tend to skip those).
Based on that, I guess I look at Randy as an MMA icon.

It's not really personal, just that when I was getting into MMA all the biggest assholes in my friend circle were diehard Randy/Hughes fans. Coincidence? I dunno. Definitely a legend though.

I thought Sylvia would beat Couture for sure.

Also, compared to the Hunt fight, Lesnar looks soft. I wonder what the Lesnar who fought Hunt could do. I think that is the best he has ever been in the octagon. He has the most brutal ground and pound in the sport's history. And he needs no space to generate force.

That being said, I would still pick Jones over him. I wanted to see that fight so bad.

Randy was also like the original TRT guy. I think Joe Rogan said on air he was having hormone therapy. lol. This was before most people had ever heard of TRT.

I don't think I believe in "cracked chins". People often say shit like a gust of wind would knock out Liddell these days. That shot he took from Franklin, or Rashad, would have put him out at any point of his career imo. People act like Chuck used to be able to eat shots like that for breakfast.

I agree on the Rashad shot, but not the Franklin one. Anyway, the Rashad punch is the one that cracked his jaw.

Chuck ran right into the franklin punch. nobody really knows. maybe Franklin just hit him in a particular spot. But Chuck usually doesn't overextend like that. He was a counterpuncher who would let people come to him. He was rarely in a situation where he threw a big punch that missed so much and left him vulnerable.

You're crazy, Franklin was not KOing Chuck at any other point in his career, especially not with one of his hands messed up by a Liddell kick.

Chuck took bombs from Rampage, Guy Mezger (he got high kicked and shook it off) he even took Overeem knees to the dome

It's also medically accepted that people with brain injuries or concussions are more likely to get more concussions/brain injuries

fav fighter interview ever:

"So Mirko, I understand you went to college. Which one?"
CroCop: "Yes."

This is stupid. I could do this for any fighter. For example, how didn't Hunt knock out Bigfoot when such lesser punchers have? Bigfoot had been KOd many times and Hunt couldn't do it in the first fight.

You are acting like you can actually measure these things. Like Ted Williams used to break down the strikezone into squares. Like a grid. Of where pitches are and what to do with them. There is no such grid for punches. You don't know what factors play in. The angle. The specific landing place. There is no data or reference point for any of this. No two punches are the same. You can't step in the same river twice and you never take the same exact punch twice.

Bertrand Russell. Problem of induction. taking specific observations and forming general rules. observe all these times chuck doesnt get KOd so a general rule is created he has a good chin. until he is knocked the fuck out. Just like observing only white swans and then you run into a black one. Russell used an analogy like: Take the experiences of a Turkey. He has lived for 3 months. Every day he is fed. Those observations when made into a general rule say this turkey exists to be fed everyday. Until Thanksgiving comes.

Yeah, what I said was stupid, but you seeing zero connection between the ability to take a punch and past concussions is not (which is by the way, is medically accepted. Your brain may take a long to recover from concussions and fighters with permanent or long term brain damage obviously are going to be easier to KO)

Of course, some of it is just the slowing of reflexes and deterioration of skill/athletic ability... It's easier to hit a slow old man but still, it's probably mostly due to nerve damage, and how over time damage will make your brain more and more fragile.

It's cool to be a contrarian, but only when you're actually right.

Well if you take a guy who gets hit in the head for a living. The odds of him getting a concussion are greater than the average pop and so are the odds he would get a second. But yeah, I admit that you are more likely to get one if you already had one. I was just looking shit up and girls are much more likely to get concussions.

  • Girls playing high school soccer suffer concussions 68 percent more often than boys playing the same sport;
  • Girls appear more susceptible to concussions in sports like soccer and basketball than boys;
  • Concussion rates in high school basketball were almost 3 times higher for girls than for boys;
