There's two ways to answer this question. The main one and more important one is because Allah told us to.

That said generally the practical reason that is speculated to be behind the ban is that pigs are filthy animals and that it was intended to reduce the spread of diseases carried by pork in premodern times.

But another one that I find more compelling has to do with the resource intensity of pork as a livestock. Even before Judaism emerged in the Middle East there's evidence that communities with less access to water were abandoning pork in favor of poultry because chickens require less water per pound of meat and they can also provide protein in the form of eggs. So it could very well have to do with resource efficiency. Think about it, Islam was revealed to the Bedouins of Arabia. Not exactly a region of the world known for its abundance of fresh water.

This is one of my favorite TMBS clips tbh. I think he hits perfectly on recklessness of this new libertarian cross-over political community in inaccurately situating Gabbard and Obama politically and ideologically in the realm of foreign policy and moreover using foreign policy as an argumentative bludgeon without really having much knowledge of it.

Also, I've become completely fed the fuck up with Gabbard. She's useless. She was gifted this undeserved branding as the anti-imperailist/anti-interventionist candidate and she absolutely squandered it in an attempt to gain success as a mainstream centrist politician. She could have used her platform to further inject real left internationalism into American discourse. Instead, she used her fifteen minutes to tout her goddamn military career and pander to rubes about American patriotism and the sacred status of the American soldier.

Anyone watch Patriot Act? I'm not too familiar with Hasan Minhaj so it was a pleasant surprise. Like John Oliver's show with more kinetic energy and visual flair. That set design is award worthy. Just gorgeous.

I don't like his style of humor but I saw one of his videos and I learned something from it at least so that's a plus for him. But to me hes just another "woke" millennial political comedian and I don't have much patience for those.

She's not useless, she has more integrity than all but Sanders and Warren in the primaries and brings important dialogue to the debates/ national discourse. Not only that, she will be a huge Bernie supporter when she drops out. Don't knock her now and they look like a hypocrite when she's converting people to Sander's campaign, or even given a cabinet position. TMBS is waay shortsighted on this. Its not like she's a threat to the top 3 (she single handedly knocked out Harris (top 3-4) without threatening the top 3).

And how does one squander a title they didn't deserve if its not who they are? Did Obama squander his Nobel by being a neoliberal war spreading machine? Or did he just show his true colors? Sure, she isn't as non-interventionist as I'd like, but she's speaking truth to power regarding our insane aggression over the past 18 years.


And if we're being honest, this is just another weak attempt to smear Gabbard.
Politician gave political expedient answer to big question disguised as a misleading yes or no question.
Misleading not only because the answer can be quite complex depending on your politics, but also because its meant as a gotcha question so a candidate can be labeled. Would I prefer it if she said, 'yes'? Yes. Is this her "this is it" moment? Hardly.

Lmao no IRL. But I’m conducting the investigation not the subject of it. Three of my guys got accused of excessive force. Whole thing is on video, didn’t look bad to me. I respect that. I was raised in a household with multiple religions; which confused the shit out of me in some ways but also probably sped up my development in other ways. Especially in regard to critical thinking.

The racial stuff is just totally meaningless to me. I don’t understand why different races can’t get along or commingle. But yeah I’m not into manic pixies either.

I think people should date within their culture. What their culture is exactly is going to depend on what aspects of their identity they feel is most salient. So someone who is very religious and primarily identifies that way should probably date within their religion. But something tells me Minhaj and his wife aren't like that and that their identity is more defined by the common experience of being 2nd generation Indian-Americans or something like that. So while they're from different religions they're really within the same cultural sphere.

For other people their nationality or immigrant status don't matter, it could be something like shared interests. For instance, many nerdy guys dream of dating an idealized nerd girl(despite the fact that they happen to despise the actually existing ones much of the time). They care about nationality but not for patriotic reasons, they just tend to fetishize Asian girls.
