There was a huge influx of fans who were totally clueless about MMA and resentful of having not watched Pride.

Or some who watched both, and came to terms that the Pride fighters were not the God like figures they were hyped up to be when they had to fight without juicing, and fight fixing...

Fair enough.

The guy that got me into MMA told me to avoid Sherdo because it was a cesspool lol

I think the first MMA forum he pointed me towards was subfighter.com or something like that. Pretty sure it's defunct now but it had a lot of highlight videos back in the day

The technical term was "TUF noob".

It was pretty funny how having joined prior to the 1st season of TUF (mid 2005?) was THE badge of e-cred back then. If discussions got heated enough someone with the credentials would accuse others of being TUF noobs.

Also everyone, and I do mean every single poster, had watched MMA since the beginning, often with some elaborate tale that explained how a person that was younger than 8 in 1993 had watched the first events. Borrowed tapes from their uncle, watched some obscure rerun, etc etc.

Oh this reminds me, shitting on Sherdog and praising the UG (despite having never posted there) was another thing the cool kids did.

I think I visited it once or twice and the layout was absolute garbage.

Was he previously Seaside? The guy that looked exactly like Elmer Fudd?
Yes. Supposedly Brazilian but I'm not entirely sure.

On topic of bans, who here has never had yellows even once?

Is there anyone?
Dubbed only once for bumping a porn suicide thread.

Not explicity for the sake of bumping, just made some dumb joke about the OP going out like a legend.

Pride was simply the better, more entertaining product in my opinion. You have dummies who did/do the same for past and current UFC fighters too. Anderson wasn’t a hyped up godlike figure until he was out of Pride and in UFC.

I won't disagree on their presentation, or certain fights living up to the hype. I more criticize them(or their fans) who still maintain that the talent was light years ahead of anything stateside, completely disregarding the evidence to the contrary.

Although, as far as the entertainment aspect goes, for every great fight, there were a whole lot of snoozers with guys just laying on top of each other, working those 10 minute rounds down.

Anderson wasn’t a hyped up godlike figure until he was out of Pride and in UFC.

He had some hype, but definitely built up his rep in the UFC more. However, you have guys like Shogun, Fedor, Rampage, Cro Cop, Nog, Gomi, Aoki, W.Silva, etc, etc, being hyped like they would handle all comers that the US promotions threw at them forever and ever, and it just was not true. They've all been pretty good, to above average at best in the US. Not the Gods they were made out to be. Especially Cro Cop...my God.

"God-like" isn't something that real people said, but obviously Pride had almost all of the top HWs and 200 lbers.

Yellow cards. Not even once.

I remember subfighter. I started on lockflow, if anyone’s heard of that, then I overheard the great aesopian talking about sherdog one time while rolling and the rest is history.

Man, yall is some old school fans.

I did not watch regularly til I saw Jones dominate Matsyushenko. He hooked me

Like who? Cro Cop? Nog? Both of whom got their shit pushed in by homegrown UFC talent.

I guess Fedor squeaks out, because he avoided the UFC at all costs, but really who are the guys in this "deep" talent pool of the Pride HW's you're taking about?

Crocops best days were in the overlap with K1 and Pride ('99-'03) by far. The difference with the UFC at the time was the wrestling heavy approach and the way the cage and rule set supported that.
