This is how little I used Magick in that game.

The initial "cast a fire spell" thing for the Mages College quest? I bought a fireball spell (didn't have one) and I didn't have enough magicka to cast that shit. So, I went out and quested for like 2 hours to find the fucking word wall to give me the fireball shout and that's how I got in... after having to reload the save 10 times cause I'd kill the quest giver when I tried to shout on the ground.

For me the sword & board combat, or god forbid two handed, was pretty boring most of the time. But some people hate playing a sneak archer and want to bash shit in the brains, so eh. Magic just wasn't supported well enough, they missed the balance somehow. I'm not smart enough to fix it though.
It got pretty boring yeah which is why the "main" character I have (aka, my first one) was a Archer sneaking thief wearing full Nightingale Set, was head of the Dark Brotherhood but carried a two handed dragon bone sword as a back up when I got into caves.

Also, only way I fix shit anymore is mods. The only mods I run that aren't like the Unofficial Patch or some of the graphics ones are the scaling ones, varying dragons, realistic weapons, and then one for better blood effects.

Nothing like murdering a room of assholes and then the blood is covering the ceiling.

If you max out Enchanting (level 100 and all 5 perks of Enchanter) and use a grand soul gem, you can enchant an item with Fortify Magicka to reduce the cost of a school by a flat 25%. Enchant a helmet, amulet, ring, and robe, and you get 100% free cost. And then with the Extra Effect perk, you get to do it twice, so two schools. My early game is always stealth archery while i'm pumping enchanting and making money. Once you can start enchanting fortified items, your magicka skills will go up crazy fast.
;^) this

I didn't do this till I hit almost level 22 on the last run I trailed off on so my dude was running around with a DragonBone ax that was enchanted in like Dragonscale armor wrecking shit and just casting healing spells all the time.
Yeah that style feels immortal after a certain point lol. I suppose it's inevitable in an elder scrolls game that you're going to turn into an unstoppable death machine, but I want the mechanics to feel right. Early game, meh. The feel is off. Like Falsedawn I usually transition out of sneak archer. Somehow the one-handed + healing style is reasonably fun (Ax >>> Sword). So is magic after like level 30.

I always use an ax cause most of my characters are Nords so.... that whole Role Playing as a Viking thing.....

Favorite armor set? Mine is probably Dawnguard Heavy. But Bosmer Armor if we include popular mods. Mystic Elven is snappy but can cause performance issues. Light Dragon Armor is pretty damn nice too, gotta admit.

I’ve only had that happen to me once and it was in high school. The other two times didn’t have that other entity feeling but the one time it did, that was traumatizing. I didnt see or hear anything but it’s like a presence just out of my range of sight that’s glaring at me. The very end of your description is dead on. I feel it getting closer and closer until it reaches out and I feel something hit my chest and then wake up immediately.

I didn’t know people deal with that often. That’s horrible.
I am diagnosed with insomnia, so it's related. I have to go to bed on time and get up when I wake up, which is mostly at 4:30-5am.

All in all, it's livable and not that big of an influence on my day to day life.

What's that blue armor that looks like a re-skin of the glass armor?

Stahlhirm I think?

Deathbrand is pretty cool too.

Look wise it's definitely the Stahlrim though. Close second is Daederic if we're talking strictly basegame and on looks. Nightingale is really REALLY hard to beat the bonus's you get though. Stahlrim is awesome too for Nords from a lore/roleplaying element as Nords already have that resistance to cold damage and Stahlrim amps up any cold resistance enchantments I think.

Plus it like frosts up and shit too visually

Stahlrim doesn't catch my fancy but I appreciate it. Same w/Daedric. Undoubtedly looks great when some asshole is bearing down on me wearing a daedric set. Nightingale gets points because Ninja. I think way back when I started playing, you posted a pic of it in the Plats and I asked what cool mod it was. *somebody hadn't finished the Thieves Guild questline, imo*

Bahahahaha.

The thing is because I play as a warrior so often I use heavy armor and while the Dragonbone set gives you MORE protection it also only gives you like +5-10 damage resistance over Daederic but also weights like +30 more or some shit so it's trade off is pointless.

There was an Ebony chest mail piece that like poisons people that attack you that is damn near game breaking as well.

The last Nord I did was running full Ebony set with just the Mail instead of a regular Ebony armor.

EDIT:
A part of me feels like Bethesda reversed the payouts for the Dark Brotherhood vs the Thieves Guild this last go round. The DB rewards to finish the questline are pretty, well, tame. Yeah, you get a new sanctuary and shit but like the armor pieces and stuff all the Thieves Guild stuff is better/has better bonuses.

EBONY IS A WOOD!

IT'S A FUCKING WOOD!!!

sorry

Also, was Skyrim the first TES game without Umbra? I don't seem to recall ever running into her in all my playthroughs.

<Kobe213><Kobe213>

Ssssshhhhhhh Let me have my fun
Don't worry I make it a point to MINE EBONY in all of my games, because stuff like Mehrune's Dagger requires it for upgrade. In, you know, THE EBONY MINE WHERE WE MINE EBONY. Oh shit, I just found a Bamboo vein! OMG, look at this deposit of Teak! And you can pick Cypress nuggets right off the ground! WHAT AN AMAZING MINE.

It's a game with dragons and the undead attacking you bruh...

This is like whining about how Jon Snow survived being trampled in the Battle of the Bastards.

Like dude... THERE'S FUCKING DRAGONS
