So, question. When the right wing racists start with their new dog whistles, am I supposed to ignore it or can we call them on it?

Because the newest one, Clown World, is in line with /r/Frenworld with trying to normalize racist shit with baby talk and frog pictures. It's really obvious and they apparently think it's super clever.
It's a super frustrating trend. Just another sign that political discourse is in the shitter.
If you call out a dog whistle, you'll be forced to explain the context of the meme in exhaustive detail, at which point they'll just gaslight you. Their goal is to wear you out so you become frustrated and make a fool of yourself in front of onlookers.

Still, there is some value in explaining the context. The expression is that when you argue online you are trying to convince the audience, not your opponent. Maybe have a copy/paste text response/explanation ready to go, and don't waste too much time dealing with people arguing in bad faith.

Yeah, but this same strategy has gone through a few iterations now. The cat is completely out of the bag, I don't think it really works anymore. I mean, journalists will always let me down, but I think just about everyone with basic internet literacy and two brain cells to rub together knows what's up.

You're going to pretend that the Bloomin Onion isn't good?
I’m not a Blooming Onion guy but The Outback on the next island over has been delicious every time I go. The one on Maui is about the worst steakhouse experience you can imagine. Terrible food, service, everything.

I think Sherdog posters in general use too many commas, but it's usually for the purpose of helping to clarify meaning--I will do so on purpose occasionally, so I'm ok with it. I have come to be able to tolerate just about all the shitty writing on here, but I really wish to fuck that I could go just one day without seeing a misused apostrophe, just to restore my faith in humanity a little. And I'm with @Jack V Savage. Good grammar just isn't that hard to learn, imo, and no more effort to put into practice than shitty writing that makes it difficult understand you.

@Lead I'm looking at you, man. I love ya but seriously, sometimes your posts are literally indecipherable to me LOL

Yea... sad thing is I frequently reread and revise before making the post and it still comes out as shit. I’ll get to a third revised version of a work email and finally be like “fuck it, they know what I mean” or just go talk to them in person.

God, I feel dumber just typing this out.

Basically, a big ban recently happened to white supremacist subreddits on reddit. Being the giant pussies they are, they couldn't be off of reddit, but they also couldn't stop y'know, being racist pricks.

So in order to try and get around it all, they created the fren subreddits as a form of plausible deniability. Frens are whites. Nonfrens are everyone else. "Nosefrens" are jews. "Bopping" people has about as much subtlety as "helicopter rides".

As an extension of this, "Honkler" was created to troll attention away from "Leftists tilting at frenly windmills". It originally started as another redpill-esque "enjoying the decline" form of nihilism, but Honkler has increasingly been adopted as a symbol for white supremacy by the same ironic shitposters who memed it into existence.

Here's a small sampling

Thank you. And I apologize for making you feel dumber getting into that. If it’s any consolation I feel dumb as well.

One of the best things I could have ever done was taken a technical writing class at college. We learn flowery literary techniques our entire lives, and it makes our communications really roundabout.

Technical writing blew all that out for me. If you can specify with a word instead of a phrase, do it. We have all these words in the english language for really specific things, but we never use them. I had a teacher tell me to reduce a two page paper to 5 sentences, that'll change your whole outlook on things.

It would be way more palatable if it wasn't the lowest hanging fruit. Like, clowns wearing nazi hats, WHAT COULD IT BE? And then to have someone insult my intelligence by acting like i'm Don Quixote, come on guys.

It's what a low IQ person's idea of a high IQ cipher is. The zodiac killer, he knew his shit. This is just nazi frogs. Same thing with numerology and 1488 and shit. It's not clever, but these cats think they're really fooling people.

That's accurate lmao.

People think you're being terse because your emails are 5 words. I had to send an emoji to clear up a misunderstanding and it disgusted me. If I could just post gifs at work, that would make things much easier.

I didn’t have a full course but one of my finance classes had an assignment similar to that. It’s was surpisingly difficult.

I refuse to use emojis but I run into the same problem if the tone of the email is right. It shouldn’t have to be that way and frustrates me a lot. There have been so many times I had the perfect gif for an email. Outlook needs to step up its game.

I called a lady last week, and she was all gassed up because I had my customer service voice on and it was totally different than the tone of my emails. She was like "OMG, I thought you hated me"!

I mean, I do, but i'm not gonna tell you that lol. My reputation is sterling office wide, I have appearances to maintain.

This is a really good exercise. I had ''science and society'' course that, for whatever reason, was mandatory in my bachelor's. The instructor realized that it was fluff and he could do whatever he wanted with it. So he had us read all kinds of whacky shit. He was going to give us all A's anyways, so it didn't matter that he was a dick with reading assignments. Every week we had to read some ridiculously long and abstruse essay or excerpt from a book (usually sci fi of some sort), and we had to summarise the entire thing into 200 words. Not 200 words or less. 200 words exactly. It really makes you think about every word you put in each sentence.

It also has the byproduct of widening your vocabulary, which is always good. I get lots of shit for using "big words", but it makes sense when that big word replaces 5 little ones.

@Lead A screenshot of a TV show is not a meme. Also, making cultural references outside of the context in which they are relevant doesn't make sense.
