My boy on Twitch hates the rebel flag (he lives in NYC but grew up in FL) yet he has a Rising Sun flag hanging on the wall behind him.
FLOL.

He loved flags. :(
The history of symbols is really interesting to me.

Another example, I became friendly with a Norweigian exchange student when I was in high school (keep in mind I was in high school 15 years ago) and she gave me a Thor's hammer pendant as a gift once when she found out I was working as a bouncer. "I don't believe in praying and shit and my ancestors believed that wearing his hammer would grant you protection".

Nowadays? I just leave that gift from a good friend in a small jewelry box cause if you wear that now... instant accusations of "YOU'RE A RACIST!" Especially if you're a bouncer in a college town like I was until 2 years ago.

I mean im as "hill billy" "red neck" "white trash" as it gets. Grew up working the farm, live in the hills, been on food stamps, own guns, hunts, fishes, drinks miller lite. I think i get to judge my own kind as harshly as i want.
Missouri is a yankee state.

I mean, you absolutely can. I come from a long line of hillbillies and I'm saying that even if you want to take that particular shit on them/us, it's not entirely true.

So I’ve emailed the insurance people that had contacted me about my fall twice now and they are not responding to my emails......even though in their initial email they promised to keep me updated. My BF thinks they are purposely ignoring me, as They 100% know they’re at fault. Should I just accept that I have to contact a lawyer?
They could be having staffing problems due to COVID. I would call and require a commitment from them for a reasonable expectation of when you will get updated next, and require them to state what the next steps are in the process. Then hold them to that commitment.

I don't know if the people you are describing are racist but they are at the very least okay with displaying a racist symbol. Is that equally bad? To me it is.

Our nations founders were slave holders man. It's interwoven into our past. But intent matters. As I said to a lot of people it doesn't represent the war or a political philosophy at all. No they aren't just as bad.

Ask the next person you see flying one who the president of the confederacy was or if they know that wasn't even the official flag ..... you're average American is a fuckin retard and isn't even thinking that deeply about it.

If you wave a confederate flag you either support slavery or don't care enough about the fact that the flag you are waving represents slavery to not wave it. I can't read people's minds but both of those things are equally awful to me.

You're welcome to your opinion. Personally I'd say actual racism is at least a step beyond eschewing political correctness.

What do you think of someone who would display a swastika?

It's been pointed out to you how those things have important differences, but I'll answer. I figure those people feel rejected by society and are expressing it through hatred of other groups.

The rebel flag is an unofficial symbol of being southern though. When was it ever acceptable up north or on the west coast?

I grew up in CO so I wouldn't know. Are we talking hoisting a flag at one's home or rockin' a Skynyrd shirt? One would look pretty dumb and that's about it, the other would probably get a few compliments.

So why aren't you a racist if those other terms apply to you..... cuz maybe it's not interchangeable

My cousins are from Florida. And although they’re Puerto Rican/Ashkenazi (not generational Southerners) and never flew the confederate flag themselves, I remember when I was a little kid I went to visit them and saw the flag all over. I thought it was a cool looking flag and brought home a little miniature one and had it in like a cup I had markers or whatever in on my desk.

I knew literally one black kid but we were friends and when he came over he saw it and said, “are you racist?” I said of course not and he explained what that flag meant to black people. So I apologized and threw it away right there. That’s all it took for me.
